A lot has been happening lately, and I've been slacking on posting. Recently, we lost Bugs & Apollo due to the heat wave 😞, but everyone else is doing good.

Thankfully, with how things have worked out, by fall Titan BD014 will step in for Apollo, hopefully keeping the show quality lineage going, and Cosmo, Bugs' son, will continue his lines of Opals.

I added a new addition as well, an Agouti New Zealand buck with possible Harlequin genes to add to the color project side of the barn. Also doing an update picture on the little striped baby we had back in April, she's grown well and become so beautiful.

My BBS Cochins have grown like weeds. I'm fairly certain I have 3 roosters in the group, 1 Splash, and 2 Blues. I'm excited to see them full grown and start hatching eggs from them. We also managed to add some Royal Palm turkey chicks to the group, ensuring we can continue with producing Mottled Blacks and Tri-color Mottled Blacks

My BBS Blue Standard Cochin chicks came in yesterday! Unfortunately, out of 10, only these 3 survived, but they're doing great, and is sending out another 7 beginning of June. Hopefully, these next ones will make it 🤞. I'm still really happy with the quick delivery and wonderful customer service from them! Thank you, !

Between juggling fixing up our new house & settling in, we were finally able to squeeze in getting the rabbits raised, and the new Bunny Barn is starting to look professional 😁.

When I get another spare moment, I'll build a new posing/work table, and down the road, I'll be adding lighting.

As well as the good, comes the bad. Yesterday, I discovered a terminal cull in Momma's litter. This buck has a snagle tooth growing out and up from his lips, and his other tooth is severely long. As seen, it's causing problems with his nasal cavity and will need to be culled right away to save him from any pain.

This is the first time I've had a rabbit like this come out from Bugs & Momma so I'll be keeping a close eye on the next litter to determine if the two need to be retired sooner than I was originally expecting.

I did a thing 🫣 I ordered chicks online for the first time ever last week. They will be straight-run BBS Cochins, so hopefully, we'll get a couple of roosters in there to fill Adonis' shoes 🤞

Anyone who wanted BB Cochins from us will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer, but the upside is now I'll be able to offer the Splash variety, too! They will be arriving roughly May 19th-21st.

I also have a batch of turkey eggs that I'll be starting in a couple of days 😁 Parents will include -

Tom - Mottled Slate (Tank)
Hens - Sweetgrass (Pearl)
- Blue Slate (Blue)
- Mottled Black (Scarlet)
- White Holland (Jenny)

There's change in the air this spring for Big Dipper Ranch. We have finally moved back to the midwest. The journey was strenuous and exhausting, but we are finally here in Montana.

With good, unfortunately comes bad. I lost my beautiful sweet Adonis and my silly little Millie to a predator. Due to the flock dynamic, one of my turkey hens disliked Adonis and would beat him up, so I let him free range outside the trailer and put him up in the current coop to keep him separated and safe. Unknowingly, the coop is not up to par like it looked to be, and a critter dug under and ate my poor babies.

Upon loading the cattle, we also lost hold of Baby Bjorn, but we have wonderful people trying to capture him so we can get a transporter to ship him over to us. Hopefully, he will be home with us very soon.

The rest of the animals are doing good, the cows are resting, the rabbits are temporarily housed in a horse shelter that I plan to convert and lift the cages, and the birds will stay in the stock trailer until I can predator proof the coop.

We have a long way to rebuild Big Dipper Ranch, but we're determined 💪. Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way and is continuing to support us!
