This is why we can’t have nice things. 😂🐐

We decorated for ONE day for an event, left the flowers out, and the animals have officially claimed them.

The goats are headbutting the plants, the chickens and peacocks are pulling off petals, and the pumpkins are already almost gone.

Farm decor has a very short shelf life around here. 🌾🎃

Happy National 4-H Week 🍀
There are some things you don’t fully understand the value of until you’re grown: 4-H is one of them.

From the outside, people see the green clover. They see livestock shows, projects, record books, speeches, meetings, contests, ribbons and banners. But those of us who were lucky enough to be raised in 4-H know it was never really about any of those things.
It was learning to walk into a room when you were scared and speak anyway. Learning to shake someone’s hand, look them in the eye and introduce yourself. Learning that if an animal depended on you, you showed up whether you were tired, it was freezing cold, blazing hot, or you simply didn’t feel like it. It was learning how to win with humility and how to lose without letting it break you.
It was finding out that sometimes you can work harder than you ever have, give something absolutely everything you’ve got, and still not be the one whose name gets called. And then learning to come back and try again.

4-H gives kids responsibility before they realize that’s what it is. It gives them confidence before they know they need it. It teaches leadership, service, work ethic, resilience and the importance of being part of something bigger than themselves.
And somewhere between the barn chores, demonstrations, community service, county fairs, friendships, early mornings and late nights, it starts building a person. Years later, the ribbons may be packed away. The projects are long gone. The animals that taught us so much are only memories.
But the lessons stay.
The confidence stays.
The work ethic stays.
The friendships stay.
The ability to get back up stays.

And one day you realize that little green clover had its hand in raising you. Then, if you’re really lucky, you get to stand on the other side and watch it begin raising another generation.
So this week, here’s to every 4-H kid; past, present and still to come. To the parents, volunteers, Extension educators and leaders who pour into them. And to an organization that has spent generations teaching kids not only how to make the best better, but how to become pretty incredible humans along the way.

The past few weeks have been busy, messy, exciting, exhausting, and so worth it. 💚

We opened our doors to the public for the very first time for Open Farm Day, and we are so thankful for the turnout and support from our community. Seeing people walk the trails, meet the animals, visit the farm store, and enjoy the farm meant so much to us.

A huge thank you to my husband, Preston, my parents, and our family and friends who put in so much time, hard work, and effort to help make this possible. From cleaning and setting up to animal care, farm projects, and all the behind-the-scenes work, we could not have done it without you.

Thank you to B & I construction group B&I Home Comforts LLC and the guys for building the farm store and helping with maintenance projects around the farm. So many pieces came together because of the people who showed up for us.

We are so grateful to everyone who came out, supported our little farm, and helped make our first Open Farm Day so special. 🌾🦙🐮🐐

One of these things is not like the others… 🐮🦙🐐

Hazel has realized she’s small enough to squeeze through the fence. So, she left her mom this morning, snuck into the boy alpacas and goats’ side, and helped herself to breakfast like she had a reservation and acted like she was absolutely supposed to be there.

Early morning routine with the alpaca girls. 🦙🌾

Fresh out of the barn, stopping at the water tubs before their morning walkabout begins. They are enjoying the small window of cooler morning air before the humid sets in and the bugs come out!

Midweek motivation from Azura’s hay bale throne. 👑🐐

Sometimes you have to build your own throne, create your own stairs, claim your place, and sit there like you always belonged.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Believe in what you’re building. Own your place.

Even if your empire starts with a pile of hay. 🌾

A little bittersweet farm update. 🦚

Our peahen had been sitting on eggs this season, but unfortunately they did not hatch. This has been her third season trying without success, which has been sad to watch.

We were close to stepping in and removing the eggs for her well-being, but she finally decided on her own that it was time to leave the nest.

This was her first real interaction with our peacock after nesting for so long, and it was sweet to see them back together again.

Not every farm story has the ending we hope for. Farm life comes with beautiful moments, hard moments, and a lot of learning in between. 💚

Why do alpacas roll in the dirt? 🦙🌾

This behavior is called dust bathing. Alpacas use dry dirt or sand as a natural way to groom themselves. The dust helps work through their fleece, loosen debris, absorb extra moisture, and may help make their coat less inviting to external parasites.

So yes, they are making themselves “clean” by getting dirty. It may look silly, but for alpacas, it’s just part of taking care of themselves.
