My mouth may not be ready for my usual foodie adventures yet, but thankfully, I have a wonderful friend who knows exactly how to make recovery a little sweeter.

💜Lauren, the talented baker behind Five Loaves Micro Bakery, LLC, went out of her way to make sure I have soft, easy-to-eat treats such as her homemade cheesecake, sourdough brioche cinnamon rolls & apple crumble while I’m recovering from oral surgery…& I truly couldn’t be more grateful! Thank you for this amazing care package, Lauren! But most of all, thank you for your friendship.

Oral surgery update.

🦷I had oral surgery this morning, & now it’s time to give myself a few days to recover. I’ll be temporarily trading restaurant tables for the couch, an ice pack & lots of very soft foods.

💜Thank you so much, in advance, for all the support, prayers, good vibes & well wishes. I appreciate everyone bearing with me while I heal. I’ll be back to doing what I love most, eating my way around Birmingham, as soon as I can.

The Bright Star pie taste test continues! I’ve been making my way through the legendary homemade pies at The Bright Star, & it’s time to give the coconut pie its moment in the spotlight.

🥥🥧If you’re like me & love all things coconut flavored, then I think you’d absolutely enjoy this pie. It’s creamy with delicious real coconut flavor & a scrumptious shredded coconut topping which adds a delightful texture. It also has a buttery crust which pairs so well with the nuttiness of the creamy coconut. I enjoyed this luscious pie so much, I’m officially ranking it as my SECOND favorite Bright Star pie of all time. Here’s a look at the current ranking:

🥉🥜🍍Peanut butter, but depending on my mood, I just might have to say that the pineapple cheese flavor shares the number 3 spot!

An unforgettable evening! I recently had the pleasure of attending Chat & Chew at Denim on 7th hosted by Laya Jackson aka . This was an event for the Birmingham content creator community that brought us together for a night of connecting outside of social media. This was my first time visiting Denim on 7th, which is an upscale cocktail lounge located downtown in Birmingham’s Lakeview District.

😋Let me talk about my specialty, the CHEW part! This event’s scrumptious spread was provided by Sauce & Suds which featured their house-made meatballs, fromage melts (house-made cheese curds) & their wings with their brand new sauces, homemade spicy peach sauce, pumpkin spice dry rub & mango habanero. This was my first time tasting Sauce & Suds, but based on what I tasted at this event, I would definitely be paying their restaurant a visit! Everything I tried was great, but I particularly enjoyed the ooey gooey fromage melts with a crispy outside. I’m always happy when Roll Cajun Boudin is in the building! Their jambalaya is 10/10! It has a kick of Cajun spice that is oh so very nice! I heard this dish being raved about all night.

👖🍸Denim on 7th itself is lovely. The atmosphere is sophisticated, yet comfortable. Service was prompt & friendly. I’d recommend this place for a night out catching up with friends or a night cap after a nice meal.

✨I’ve been to many an event, but not many as well organized as this one! Laya did her big one with this one. My favorite part of the night was asking everyone the question I drew from the chat cards meant to get the convo flowing, which couldn’t have been more perfect for me: what’s one Birmingham restaurant everyone should try at least once? I’m always the one answering this question, so it was super interesting to hear everyone else’s answer. How would you answer this question?

What’s the last food pic in your phone? Drop it in the comments.👇🏻Mine is this AMAZING White Chocolate Bread Pudding I had for dessert last night at Dyron's Lowcountry. This bread pudding features caramel & chocolate sauce, powdered sugar & strawberries. This take is super spongy & luscious, which is how I like my bread pudding rather than having chunks of torn bread.

😋Last night was the first time I’ve dined at Dyron’s in more than a decade, & I look forward to telling you all about it. Stay tuned for my full review.

Local GEM alert! 🚨 💎 Sabor Latino Restaurant would definitely be on my Bests of Birmingham list. If you’ve never dined at this Peruvian/Latin restaurant, I highly recommend doing so. If you have, what’s your go to order here?

A taste of Birmingham history! Some Bham food legends may be gone, but their flavors live on. Chop Suey Inn in Homewood is carrying on some of the same family recipes associated with the gone, but not forgotten, beloved Joy Young restaurant. Unfortunately, I never got to experience Joy Young, but I’ve always heard wonderful things, so I was excited to try Chop Suey Inn. They’re located at 813 Green Springs Hwy in Homewood, Alabama.

😋The menu item that was recommended to me the most were, by far, the famous egg rolls. To be honest, I was skeptical. Could the egg rolls really be THAT special?! One bite won me over. These are 100% the very best egg rolls I’ve ever tasted! The wrap is crisp, yet has the perfect bite to it. It’s filled with super flavorful meat & tender cabbage. Those in the know order the egg rolls with the house made hot mustard. It’s sure to clear your sinuses & delight your palate. Combine that with a bit of duck sauce for the ultimate treat.

🥡Amy & I also ordered the chicken moo shu along with the egg foo young, which is luscious egg filled with moist chicken & succulent shrimp. Think a “scramblette” with a delicious Chinese food twist. I loved this dish & would definitely order it again. The egg foo young is served in a gravy, which is fantastic over rice. I didn’t know until after we ordered that the fried rice is the way to go, so I’ll try it next time. The chicken moo shu is served in flour pancakes. It’s filled with chicken & veggies along with a side of sweet hoisin sauce.

❤️There’s a reason Chop Suey Inn has been a favorite of locals since the 1970s. This place takes pride in their recipes & that is evident with every bite…ESPECIALLY with the egg rolls! This is a cut above your typical takeout Chinese restaurant. Chop Suey Inn does have some tables for dining in, but this is primarily a carry out spot. I’d consider this place a MUST TRY for all Birmingham food enthusiasts who love great Chinese food. It is without a doubt a certified local gem!
