The GREATEST hidden gem find of 2026! Dolce Pavlovas BHM, an authentic Venezuelan restaurant, recently made its way onto my radar. They offer incredible homemade dishes such as arepas, empanadas & various desserts including pavlovas. This wonderful family-run spot is located in Homewood at 1919 28th Ave S. Amy & I recently checked them out for a lovely Sunday lunch!
š«We started with a Chicken Arepa & a Beef Empanada both served with garlic salsa. These were the undisputed BEST takes on these dishes Iāve ever enjoyed! The chicken in the Chicken Arepa was so tender. Iāve never had such a flavorful chicken dish. The shredded chicken was sandwiched between fresh maize dough. Out of this world! The shell of the Beef Empanada was perfectly crisp. It was a bit different from other empanadas Iāve had, but in a good wayā¦more light & fresh! The beef filling was equally as delicious. I really enjoyed it along with the savory & super flavorful garlic salsa.
š„After our lunch, we had to check out the dessert case. Everything looked so inviting! We tried the restaurantās namesake & signature dish, a fresh pavlova. This unique dessert has a beautifully whipped meringue atop a crisp shell with a marshmallow-like center with a tart fruit jam. Iāve never had anything quite like it! Iām glad to have tried it, but my favorite dessert was the Mil Hojas which literally translates to ā1000 layers.ā This tasty treat features flaky layers of puff pastry with a crema & caramel filling. This is the most amazing mashup of delightful flavors & textures! I highly recommend trying it.
šDolce Pavlovas really impressed me! This place is a 10/10! They share a space with another restaurant, so pay attention to their hours. Dolce Pavlovas is open Tuesday-Saturday 3pm-9pm & Sunday 9am-9pm. I cannot stress enough how amazing of a place this is! The owner & employees are such a pleasure. OUTSTANDING service. The atmosphere is cozy, yet very comfortable. Do me a favor, Birmingham, go check them out for yourself!
