Oral surgery went well. Had to have some extra bone put in, so I have to have one more procedure in 3 months. Very grateful yesterday’s work is behind me & I’ve been able to get some good rest. Amy (& Luna) are taking great care of me. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. 💜

I’ve had a fabulous time celebrating my bday month. I celebrated a little extra this year bc 1) I think you should celebrate more as you age with grace! 2) I’m having a brutal oral surgery Thursday. This will be my 3rd round of surgery since late Dec but, hopefully, the last for a while. Though I’m extremely nervous due to ptsd from past medical trauma (not related to any of this), I am super grateful I can have this procedure done. I’m having some work done & post put in for implants. I’ve gone through this before & recovery can be long & painful. I’m stressed, but trying to keep my spirits lifted. I’ll be healing for a bit, but I have some content backlogged to keep y’all entertained. Thank you for bearing with me.💜

Two words: bottomless brunch! Brunch is back with a bang at Jinsei Sushi Birmingham with 2 bottomless brunch options: $35 food only or $45 for food + mimosas, hot sake or prosecco. Start by ordering any 2 menu items. Once finished, order an additional item & repeat until you’re full. Jinsei’s a longtime favorite of Amy & I, so we were glad to investigate the new brunch.

🍓🥞🥓The Strawberry Soufflé Pancake featuring macerated strawberries, condensed milk, chantilly cream & mint immediately caught my eye, so I started with it & bacon. The pancake was thick, pillowy soft & super jiggly. It was like biting into a lightly sweet cloud..so delightful! This dish was fun, interesting & totally delicious. The chantilly cream pairs well with the tart, fresh strawberry. This MUST TRY item was my favorite dish! I enjoyed it along with the savory, salty bacon.

🍙🥗The Teriyaki Spam Musubi served with chili sauce was the ultimate umami bomb. The intensely flavorful spam is balanced by light sushi rice & a nori wrap with subtle oceanic notes. The Ginger Salad with cherry tomatoes, asparagus, potato matchsticks, mixed greens & creamy ginger dressing was fresh & crisp.

🍗🧇🌯We also had the Chicken & Waffle featuring a mochi waffle, panko chicken, jalapeño slaw, house pickles & hot honey & the Breakfast Hand Roll with bacon, eggs & sushi rice with jalapeño onion salsa. I say this with my entire chest..Jinsei’s Chicken & Waffle is my FAVORITE spin on chicken & waffles in Bham! The waffle is lightly crisp yet fluffy, the chicken has a good crunch & the sweet hot honey + tangy pickles & spicy jalapeño slaw makes for the ultimate flavor combo! The Breakfast Hand Roll was bland on its own. The jalapeño onion salsa added much needed pizazz.

🍹🧉In addition to mimosas & sake, Jinsei offers creative cocktails & mocktails. Amy usually has the Carrotini & I enjoyed the n/a Strawberry Mojito. Service is friendly & knowledgeable, the atmosphere is comfortable, yet refined & the menu offers something for everyone. Brunch is available Sat & Sun. If you don’t have plans this weekend, you definitely do now. Brunch at Jinsei is where it’s at!

Behold, the Famous Ferdi Special Po’boy at Mother's Restaurant. This po’boy features ham, roast beef & the original debris in au jus. It’s savory, soggy in the best of ways & one of the greatest po’boys I’ve ever tasted. Also, it was fun to introduce Amy to this restaurant. It was her first time dining here. Pretty sure it has gained a place on our “musts every time we’re in New Orleans” list.

Enjoyed my official birthday dinner at Desi Vega's Steakhouse - New Orleans. It was one of the most incredible meals of my life. Fun fact: instead of dessert, they surprise you with a complimentary meatball on special occasions. I think more places should implement this savory policy!😋 Full review coming soon…& thank you to those of you who sent me birthday love & well wishes. Thanks for making this foodie’s day extra special.💜
