Dakota Pygoras

Dakota Pygoras We produce the Pygora goat which produces wonderful, lofty, soft, fiber that does not coarsen as the goat ages.

This goat has a great personality and a manageable size, good health, and fleece in a range of colors that make this a perfect fiber goat!

The last couple days when holding
Momma Cassidy for Junia to eat; Junia has been more interested in diving into the feeder and eating grain. We have a special mixer for the kid goats and getting that mixture to Junia is a challenge with the older kids dominating the creeper pen. Juno is so used to me being around her at feeding time I was able to scoop her pans hand her over to Denny and put her outside the doe pen. She liked that idea! I did try to hold Cassidy for her after grain feeding and that isn’t working. With no grain or pocket full of peanuts; she just wasn’t having it!
Thanks for checking in!

The whole concept of a gate is to control the comings and goings of one’s herd. The question today is who is in control ???
Take care !

The feeding grain in the morning and evening routine is the way I am able to make Cassidy stand for Junia. Because the does are still producing milk; an extra grain feeding won’t go to their hips. As soon as Junia starts eating grower and grain like her twin brother, I can ease up on the grain feeding .
Take care!

Our kids are noticing anything new, different or put into the goat pen. Immediately they claim it for a toy and entertainment! Trying to put a hay bale where it needs to be is a challenge with 10 helpers wanting to jump on the bale!
Take care everyone and thanks for checking in! Pygoras

Hi! Call us Dakota Pygoras experts in RE doing! We sure can tell you what you will want to do when deciding on fencing for your herd. Pending on pressure points, areas of temptation to go to the other side and worst case scenarios concerning weather; our herd has taught us MUCH!
Today we are addressing goats putting there front hooves on the fence line and leaning over to get a treat like a peanut from a Harvest Host guest. We think the hog panels attracted to heavy duty wooden posts will keep up with the herd, the guests and winter. Pygoras

Grow baby grow!
The kids born mid March are taking advantage of momma’s milk and grain and grower!!! The kids born April 10th are still relying on momma for milk and they graze grass which helps develop their rumen. This means I visit the barn a lot during the day as Junia requires a team effort. I catch her momma and pin her up against some kind of barrier while Junia gets a meal. It helps if I have peanuts in my pocket!
Have a great week everyone and thanks for checking in !!!

Hooves need trimming every so often on a goat. The rest of the herd gets trimmed up whenever we shear them. We also try to tend to their hooves sometime in between fall and spring. Finn’s hooves were 4 times longer than his brothers when we put him on the stanchion this spring to shear him. We now are monitoring him and will get his hooves looked at every 4 weeks. It will be a gradual thing as the hoof has blood vessels in it and you can only cut so deep. Finn was super easy to catch and once on the stand he was a good boy!

Junia is growing ! The making momma feed her growth plan is working. As long as there is grain or a peanut involved momma will allow Junia to nurse. Junia knows it’s a team effort and runs up to see me and waits for the opportunity! I love to see her little tail wag!

The lesson; when it is nasty outside stay INSIDE and take a 💤 nap!
The herd is relying on grass for 90 % of their food. This means they must get up and go outside and walk to the grass. Thinking less inside food and more walking to outside food is going to be a good thing. once we are out of there grain mixture this Spring we will stop the night time grain feeding till the grass starts to loose nutrition.
Meanwhile; take a lesson from my herd and get that nap in today!

We have so many mouths to feed and watch over that planning a getaway is something we do months ahead! Perhaps u and your family would make a great candidate for farm sitting. Something to consider as our farm can be considered YOUR get away while we get away. We are always interested in finding candidates that may make a great fit for farm sitting.
Thanks for watching and have a great week everyone!
