Food used to be simple. You knew the farmer. You knew where the food came from. You ate what came from the earth.

Now we are surrounded by products that barely resemble real food. Long ingredient lists, artificial flavors, preservatives, dyes……and we are told it’s normal.

Something we hear often is “eating healthy is expensive”.

But when we step back and really think about it….what is actually expensive? Years of processed food, digestive problems, constant fatigue, hormone issues, doctor’s appointments, medications.

When you nourish your body with real food, it functions the way it is designed to.

Real food is an investment in your health🙏🏼

It’s easy to forget how much power we hold in the small, everyday choices we make.

Where we buy our milk. Who we trust to grow our food. Which hands we choose to support.

When we spend with large corporations, that money often leaves our town as quickly as it came. But when we choose local farms and small businesses, it stays, circling back into our community, supporting families, preserving land and keeping our local economy alive and well.

At Sacred Thicket, this isn’t just business. It is a way of life. It’s early mornings, careful stewardship and a deep respect for the land and the people we serve.

Supporting local means fresher food, stronger relationships and a community that takes care of its own.

If we want our small town to thrive, not just today, but for generations to come, it starts with where we choose to spend.

Thank you for standing with local farms🙏🏼🌿

There is a reason we feel so connected to real, whole milk, directly from the cowđź’š

Raw milk is one of nature’s most complete foods. Rich in naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, enzymes and beneficial bacteria, all in forms the body recognizes and can use. From fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, to essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. It comes as a whole system, not isolated parts.

It also contains living enzymes and beneficial bacteria that support digestion and help the body access nutrients more fully, just as nature intended.

When milk is pasteurized, heat changes that natural structure. Enzymes are reduced, delicate vitamins are affected and the living components are no longer the same. While fortification adds vitamins back in, they are not in the same naturally occurring, synergistic form.

At Sacred Thicket, we believe food should be as close to its natural state as possible. Alive, whole and deeply nourishing.

This is why we choose rawđź’š

Many people ask about the difference between A2/A2 milk and conventional milk.

Bovine milk(cow milk) contains a protein called beta-casein, which comes in two forms: A1 and A2. Some people find that milk with A1 protein is harder to digest. While research has suggested milk containing only A2 beta-casein can be much gentler on the body.

At Sacred Thicket, all of our milk comes from Jersey cows that have been genetically tested and confirmed to produce only A2 beta-casein.

That means every ounce of milk we hand out to our community is 100% A2/A2 ancestral milk from cows we know and care forđź’šđź’š

We have received a lot of questions lately about what a herd share is🥛💚

Have you ever wondered how people obtained milk before grocery stores and large scale dairies if they did not own a milk cow? A herd share is one of the oldest and most natural ways communities have obtained milk. Instead of buying milk as a product, families share ownership in the animals that produce it.

In a herd share, people purchase a small ownership portion of a dairy herd. Because they are part owners of the animals, they receive a share of the milk the herd produces. The farmer cares for the animals and manages the land and milking, while members receive milk from animals they are directly connected to.

For many families, the benefits go far beyond the milk itself. It means knowing where your food comes from, supporting small local agriculture, and participating in a food system built on relationship and community sovereignty instead of distance and anonymity.

It’s a much older way of doing things. One that communities relied on long before industrial food systems existed. And right here in Cass County, people are rediscovering it again🥛🤍

If you’ve ever wondered how herd shares work, free to ask questions below. It’s a conversation worth having!
