Peasley Dairy Farm

David and Tammy Peasley along with their son, William James Peasley, own and operate Peasley Dairy Farm. It started in 1876 and is now a sixth generation farm, located two miles north of Black River Falls, Wisconsin on Highway12/27. The farm was once the site of a stagecoach line, livery stable and hotel. The stagecoach traveled between Sparta and Neillsville and the farm was the halfway point, wh

ich was a day's travel. The passengers would stay at the hotel for the evening which was called the Half Way Hotel. The old foundation is marked today by several big white pine trees growing in its confines. Peasley sold out his share of the stagecoach line so that he could concentrate more solely on the operation of the farm. A good business decision, as it turns out, in the long run. Dairy cattle have been the mainstay of the farm over the years. However, each generation has diversified to help add income to the farm. Ice blocks use to be cut on the Black River and hauled home to the farm and stored and packed with sawdust in the ice house, later to be sold to the local hotels in the summer. Trees were cut and sold for lumber and firewood. For many years acres of strawberries were raised and sold to passing motorist. The berries were irrigated by pumping water from Snow Creek which winds through the farm. The farm wives have added much by teaching school in one room rural school houses to present day. A lot of history has unfolded on this land over the years and it continues as David & Tammy’s youngest son, William joins the family business. William is starting the beginning stages to transition the farm to an organic dairy production.
