As our 2026 nuc season comes to a close, we want to share what a nuc is, why they’re important, and who buys them.

A nuc (nucleus colony) is a small, productive package of bees with brood, food stores, and a laying queen—an efficient way to jump-start a healthy colony or expand your apiary. Nucs matter because they give new and experienced beekeepers a strong start, help establish resilient colonies, and serve as a practical bridge for those building pollination fleets or replacing aging hives. Our nuc buyers range from hobbyists and backyard keepers to commercial beekeepers and beekeeping supply stores.

A huge shout-out to our incredible crew—this has been our busiest season yet, and your hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship in every nuc built—day and night—made it possible. Thank you for the long hours and teamwork that kept us moving forward. To our customers, whether you purchased 1 nuc or several hundred, your continued support means everything to us. We’re honored to be part of your apiary journey and grateful for the trust you’ve placed in Choctaw Bee Company. We logged over 3,000 miles in deliveries this spring, working around the clock to get nucs to you when you needed them.

On a personal note, nucs are where we started beekeeping in 2018. If you’re just getting started yourself, sky is the limit. Stay tuned for 2027 nucs and what we will be offering next year.

From our hive to yours, thank you! 🐝 🇺🇸

Wishing a Happy 20th Birthday to our very own Carter Marshall today! He started with us about 3 years ago as a summer job while in high school and has gotten to see every aspect of the bee business with us along the way.

When he’s not working with us, you can usually find him working and crafting his knife making skills. Attached is a bread knife he made for us to gift a family member with. Hit him up for any custom knives you need made. 🔪

Happy Birthday from everyone at Choctaw Bee Company!

Spring’s flying by, before we blink, here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to:

✅ Bees returned from almond pollination in California
✅ Spread and placed them in our bee yards
✅ Taught the crew how to graft our own queen cells
✅ Established breeder queens
✅ Packed nucs for customers

Looking ahead to 2026—off to a great start with signs pointing to a healthy, thriving year.

Shoutout to our amazing crew: they’ve learned so much and tackle whatever the day brings with no complaints.

2 years in a row we have had snow. Sure hoping this isn’t a new norm but thankfully it didn’t last long. Nice cool morning to move bees and get them ready for this trip out west to pollinate almonds.

Citizen science request! We are expanding our US Capped Brood Monitoring Program (https://aub.ie/winterbrood) to beekeepers for three time periods this winter: Dec 19-21, Jan 2-4, and Jan 16-18.

Each beekeeper inspection should take 2-3 minutes per colony, with minimal disturbance; we are looking for a Yes or No for presence of Capped Brood.

Please help us get to our target of 10 beekeeper participants per state!

Today the Choctaw 🐝 crew finally cashed in on a trip with toptobottomfc to chase some fish. It wasn’t easy but I think everyone would agree it’s easier and more fun than pulling honey. Put together a good box of fish for a rough day!

We tried to make this happen last month before everyone went back to school but Mother Nature turned us around before we wet a hook. Couldn’t end on that note so we shot s***t, handguns, and rifles to end the day.

I am thankful for these men and young men who get stung, sweaty, and sticky to do what we do. Without them, we couldn’t do it all ourselves.

We just wrapped up our spring and summer honey harvest here at Choctaw Bee Company, and we couldn’t be more grateful! A huge shoutout to our awesome crew — you guys worked your tails off, especially with this crazy heat. Y’all are awesome help! 🙌🔥

Thank God for His blessings on our bees and their honey—His grace keeps us going and makes everything possible.

And a big thank you to everyone who came out to learn about how we make honey! It was so great sharing our passion with you.

Special thanks to:
-James Bengry, a local sideliner who was introduced to us through the veteran beekeeping internship program at ufhoneybeelab. Glad we got to connect!
-Blake Thaxton, Bee & Honey Director from Alabama Farmers Federation (AFF). Appreciate your support for our industry!
-Luke Coher, college intern for AFF. Thanks for hanging out and learning with us!
-Marlee Jackson, photographer for AFF. Your photos are amazing — thanks for capturing our crew and bees hard at work!

Here’s to a fantastic season and many more to come! 🐝🍯
