Woke up to three little bacon seeds this morning. So far, just three. This is Cassie's first litter, so that's not too unexpected. I think they're all girls, but one of them really did not want to be picked up and Cassie took exception to that, so I haven't been able to confirm genders yet. 😂 They're each about 8" long and stand about 5" tall.

Keeping in mind this is my first time ever hatching out chicks from eggs that were shipped to me... (Well, any eggs, shipped or not, but shipping is a little harder on them...) I'm reasonably certain that 7 of these 14 eggs are developing like they should, hopeful about 4 more, and uncertain about the remaining 3. They all looked more-or-less like #12 when I checked them on arrival.

A brief, peaceful moment amid the chaos of this summer.

In the spirit of "farming isn't all about the successes, there are a lot of failures, too," tonight is my "minimal success" photo post: 1 pea plant, two nibbled-on radishes, and 16" tall sunchokes. This is what I've got so far in my garden. The Head Supervisor is less than impressed, but she does love those window bucks and a good sunset.

The Head Supervisor has been slacking off this year, but tonight, she decided she needed to check to make sure that the chickens and rabbits were properly taken care of and inspect the area for mice and voles. We had a nice 30-minute walkabout.
