How does Harvesting Hope aid in food distribution?🫜

Through our newest program, Harvesting Hope, your food bank is able to distribute fresh, local product from farms straight to neighbors in the community. At a recent Grainger County Mobile Pantry we did just that!

Our farm partners at Newman Farms provided around 300 pounds of pork ranging from sausage links, to bacon, to pork chops. We also were able to provide hydroponically grown butterhead lettuce from our partners at Town Creek Hydroponics !

With each distribution of locally grown product, the gap between food insecurity and access to farm fresh items grows smaller. To learn more about Harvesting Hope or our Mobile Pantry program, visit SecondHarvestETN.org/programs.

After weeks of dry ground and dusty pastures… there may not be a better sound than rain on the roof 🌧️

We’re in a tough spot this spring—this drought is hitting hard. We’ve already started feeding hay in May, which is almost unheard of for us. Normally, May is when our pastures are at their lushest.

This isn’t just a short-term challenge either. Our hay fields are producing far less hay than in years past, which means we’ll likely have less hay going into winter as well. The effects of a drought don’t just last a few weeks—they can carry through for months and even into the following year.

We know we’re not the only farm dealing with this right now either. Many farmers across the area are struggling with dry pastures, reduced hay production, and trying to figure out how to stretch feed supplies earlier than expected.

It’s discouraging at times, but we’re doing everything we can to keep our animals healthy and thriving, even if that means feeding hay in a month when the grass is usually plentiful.

That’s farming—always adapting, always problem solving, and always doing the best we can for the animals in our care. 🌱🐮

There’s been a lot of new life hitting the ground around here lately 🐮

In case you didn’t know, we run a cow-calf operation here on the farm. That means our calves are born right here on our farm and raised out on pasture alongside their mothers. Around 6 months of age they’re weaned, then continue growing on grass and hay until they’re eventually ready to become beef.

One thing that’s important to us is that our cattle spend their entire lives here on our farm rather than being moved from farm to farm throughout their lives. We believe keeping them in a familiar environment helps reduce unnecessary stress and allows us to know exactly how they’ve been cared for every step of the way.

This time of year keeps us busy checking pastures, watching cows closely, and making sure every calf gets off to a good start.

There’s something special about walking out into the field and seeing a brand new calf standing beside its mama for the first time. It never gets old.

THIS is what pasture-raised really looks like. 🐖🌱

The pigs are loving this stretch of tall grass right now. Plenty of fresh forage, space to roam, and all the rooting they could want.

It’s a simple way of raising them, but it makes a difference you can see—and taste.

We’ve got pork available and a few upcoming spots for whole and half hogs if you’re planning ahead.

Thinking about buying a whole or half hog? Here’s why our families do.

When you buy a whole or half hog from our farm, you’re not just getting pork—you’re investing in how your food is raised and how it’s processed.

Our pigs are:
• Raised on pasture
• Fed a non-GMO, corn-free, soy-free diet
• Never given antibiotics, hormones, or mRNA vaccines
• Allowed to root, graze, and live as pigs were designed to

Our pork is processed simply, without added nitrates, preservatives, or MSG—so you’re getting clean, traditional pork you can feel good about serving your family.

That means:
✔ Rich flavor
✔ Healthy, creamy fat
✔ Meat you can feel good about feeding your family
✔ Lower cost per pound than buying individual pasture-raised cuts

We offer whole and half hogs year-round with weekly processing dates. We have up to 2 slots available each week, and we’re typically booked out about two weeks in advance.

You’ll receive a freezer full of pork—bacon, sausage, chops, roasts, ribs, and more—custom cut to your preferences by our butcher.

If you’ve ever considered buying in bulk, this is the easiest way to fill your freezer with high-quality, locally raised food.

Spots for upcoming weeks are limited. Message us for pricing, cut sheet, and the next available processing date.
