Remember Dublin? Well, she is now a mama to a unique heifer calf she had yesterday! Guys- genetics are WILD. 🤯

I could get into the whole genetics lesson on how this happens but I don’t think you feel like reading a book 🫣 at the end of the day- I’ll take an overmarked calf over an under-marked calf (if I have a choice) any day!

We can’t wait to see this little lady grow! We figure that her mama is Dublin, so it’s only fitting that she be named Dallas!

Sandy, one of our old gals (amazing cow), had a BEAUTIFUL calf on the 5th. Shes never given us a calf with this much color. She’s an undermarked cow for the breed standard and it’s not easy to get color back in the offspring.

So of course, you guessed it, it’s a BULL CALF. Womp womp. He’s a tank and we couldn’t be happier that mama and calf are doing wonderfully!

YOSHI WANTED TO GIVE YOU ALL A PUPDATE!

The grease bandit is still out there. He’s finally broken his silence. The brows? Totally from his spa day. Hide ya smoker grease buckets, ain’t none of them safe!

06/07/2026

UPDATE: this happened early Sunday morning. YES Yoshi is still alive. NO he didn’t get into trouble, look at him- how could I ever get mad at that face. NO he didn’t get pancreatitis. NO he didn’t get sick at all. NO it wasn’t truck grease, it was the drip bucket that hangs on the OUTSIDE of the smoker. NO we don’t just leave buckets of grease lying around, we were smoking a brisket and he saw his opportunity and went for it. NO it wasn’t a whole bucket of grease, it was a very small amount. Yoshi is still completely silent and will not confess! He’s still a very happy boy who never skipped a beat after this. šŸ™šŸ»

Yoshi is pleading the 5th. He doesn’t know why his face smells like the brisket we smoked. Do we believe him? I see rice, chicken, and canned pumpkin in his future šŸ˜…šŸ˜³

THIS IS DEATH FOR A COW.

Ever heard of hardware disease? Cows are lucky if the metal they swallow punctures through the abdominal wall and directly into the heart- killing them fast and with minimal pain compared to what it usually does.

Your ā€˜fun’ night driving the back roads having a beer - you throw your empty can out right on our fence lines. Cows can’t reach that, right?

WRONG. We mow our fence lines, as do many farmers. The mower blades shred these things and send them flying right through the fence if we don’t see them prior and they go right into the field.

Cows are curious. They eat stuff they shouldn’t. Metal is one of those things they just love to eat. A lot of farms give them a magnet that lives in the reticulum. This is the lowest stomach compartment where metal drops into and lives for the cow’s whole life. It’s a life saver in many cases for cows. The kicker? Aluminum isn’t magnetic.

The reticulum is a muscular compartment that contracts and squeezes the forage they’ve consumed back up the cows esophagus for them to chew their cud. So when that reticulum contracts? Metal fragments like aluminum will puncture through the reticulum causing fluid to leak which results in infection and usually death. OR it punctures through the abdominal wall to the heart which you can imagine- BAD.

PLEASE. Stop throwing your trash out. It may seem harmless to you, but it could easily be the cause of death to our cows. This is the 9th can I’ve found so far just this spring.

Sitting in the pasture, watching the cows graze.

The noise of the world fades away. The sound of the cows eating, birds chirping, frogs croaking - it fills the air. The feeling you get in that moment, nothing can replace it.
