Back in 1938, Carl Race, an NJ state Agriculture manager and his wife Flora wanted a simpler, more grounded lifestyle in which to raise their family. With a passion and a dream, they moved from Trenton NJ to Blairstown, purchased a 50 acre parcel of land, and Race Farm was born in. The farm began humbly, first selling ducks chickens and turkeys and then as a small fruit and vegetable operation, se
lling wholesale to local grocery stores, as well as roadside at various locations in Blairstown. The farm soon expanded when Race’s young son Carl Jr. joined the operation. Soon after, Carl and his wife Joyce expanded the farm to include a pick your own area as well as a roadside market on Rt. 94, and ran the farm together for more than three decades. In 1990, the operation was passed down to the next generation, when son Doug became the owner, leasing more property to expand the operation once again. Today, Doug, his wife Jeanny, son Ryan and daughter Devin run the farm with the continued (and invaluable!) help of his parents, Carl and Joyce. Together, they have made Race Farms a family run labor of love producing the finest local produce in the area. Along with apple, peach, pear, plum and cherry orchards, they produce an abundance of sweet corn, eggplant, beans, leafy greens and a variety of tomatoes including beautiful heirlooms! The farm also presses their own fresh cider and with an onsite bakery, produces fresh cider donuts and other baked goods! In 2011 a small prepared food line was added to the farm. Jeanny Race makes homemade hummus, dressings, salads and soups, many of which utilize the farms fresh produce, and all our produced with the freshest, healthiest and highest quality ingredients available! While Doug, Ryan and Carl can often be seen on the seat of a tractor, keeping the farm in tip top shape, the roadside market at 224 Rt. 94, is run by Devin. She see’s to it that her grandparents legacy continues, and stocks it with the freshest produce, prepared foods, and a complete garden center with a huge variety of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants and every gardening supply imaginable. It is a charming and friendly place to shop! Farm markets are a big part of the farms business, and in season we have a weekly presence in several markets in NJ, NY & PA including Union Square NY, Summit, Boonton, Blairstown and Montclair NJ as well as the Monroe farmers market in PA. W
e also participate in winter markets! Union square in nyc, runs year round. We are also in the Sparta winter market, Saturdays from 10 to 1pm at the Sparta middle school, the Monroe county market continues Saturdays from 8 to 12pm inside the Sherman theater, and the Morristown Farm market is open from 10 to 2pm at Fosterfields historical farm. At the core of the farm, is our pick your own operation, which begins in July with pick your own blueberries and vegetables and continues with apples through October. We offer fresh pressed cider, baked goods, honey and homemade soups and salads. There is nothing more rewarding for our family, than seeing your family enjoying our farm! We have a beautiful picnic area where families can relax and enjoy some quality time, or have fun at one of our many weekend festivals which often include food and live music in a casual country atmosphere. There are never any extra charges at the farm and all are invited to relax and spend a little stress free time an old fashioned country environment!
