🌟 FAN GIRL MOMENT! 🌟

During my years with K-State Research and Extension, I developed such a deep appreciation for rural Kansas—and I always loved the work Ron Wilson did through the Huck Boyd National Institute for Rural Development.

Ron has a wonderful gift for finding the stories tucked inside our small towns and sharing them in a way that reminds us just how much innovation, heart and possibility exist in rural Kansas. His Kansas Profile: Now That’s Rural features have long been some of my favorites.

So, you can imagine how special it is to now see our own Grass Roots story featured in one of his articles!

Our journey has grown to include the Grass Roots Garden Hub & Floral, Grass Roots Farms & Pumpkin Patch, and the Grass Roots Institute of Kansas—all rooted in a love for our community and a belief in what is possible right here in rural northwest Kansas.

Thank you, Ron, for taking the time to learn about what we’re building and for sharing our story. I am truly honored—and still having a bit of a fan girl moment! 💚

Now That’s Rural: Grass Roots Institute

JoEllyn Argabright purchased the garden center in her local community, then expanded it with a floral store and a community kitchen to support rural food systems. Now she has opened a pumpkin patch that entertains thousands of students.

🎃 We are SO excited for another fall at Grass Roots Farms & Pumpkin Patch! 🍂

The 2026 season is coming up, and we have some really fun things planned. From the corn maze, hayrides, pedal carts, mini golf and petting zoo to pumpkins, concessions, marketplace shopping and a great lineup of special events, we’re looking forward to welcoming families back to the Patch for all the things we love about fall.

One important change this year: our regular public Patch days will be SUNDAYS ONLY.

As much as we love a full weekend at the Patch, this season we’re simplifying things a bit so we can put our energy into making the days we are open feel really special. We hope you’ll come make a Sunday of it with us!

🎟️ Admission $10 | Ages 2 & under free
📍 Just 3 miles west of Atwood

And don’t worry — we still have some great special events sprinkled throughout the season, including our Spooktacular Haunted Maze, Grandparents Day, Bonfires & Bingo, and our Halloween Giant Pumpkin Drop, Trick or Treat & Pumpkin Smash!

We are counting down the days and can’t wait to see the Patch full of families, pumpkins and fall memories again. 🧡
