We lost a very loved goat tonight completely unexpectedly.
Our doe, Chevelle, was seemingly totally healthy and was acting very normal this evening, and we even pet her, but after I milked the goats who have already kidded, we found her dead.

It looked as though she was walking through the gate, and just layed down and died. We have a stump that keeps the gate open and she had her head rested on that as well.
She was pregnant- not super far along, so that was a loss as well.

We’re very used to death on the farm, but it still makes me wonder what happened, and I always strive to learn how to prevent something like this in the future if it was something underlying.

As many of you know, we took this year 2026 off from milking to do all sorts of stuff with our human kids, and of course, I was missing having milk, so I got a wild hair in May to see if any of the girls would get pregnant so we could have milk over the winter. Long story short, 3 of the girls actually got pregnant. 2 kidded last night, and the rest were bred again in August-September, so they’ll kid in January-February, Lord willing!

It was a LATE night last night, but we made it through! 3VG Winifred and Gulla Farms TNT had their kids around 6:30pm and 10:30pm last night.
Three boys and only one girl (of course!☠️)
Still waiting on 3VG Rich Strike “Abigail,” to have hers any day.

May the milking and bottle feeding commence! 😴😴😴

Another doe we suspected got covered in May looks to be in labor as well as TNT tonight!!
We’ll update as we can!

TNT and several of our does came into heat early this summer, and since we were already taking this season off, I went ahead and threw her and the others with the bucks in May just to see if anything would happen… took them away from the boys in June and now they’re all back with the bucks to get the rest.
Most of the girls didn’t settle then (it was quite early)
She’s awfully wide now…
