Today we had the great fortune of visiting a nearby Kaeserei (cheese factory) about half an hour from Lucerne. My "cousin" Stefan Truttmann (we think we're related, most likely are) picked us up at the hotel and took us to the dairy plant of Hans Aschwanden, Master Cheesemaker, who, along with his brother Urs, and a daughter and son-in-law, make some fabulous, award winning cheese. We had a great afternoon learning about their production process, and comparing our similar, yet still quite different, dairy systems and products. Thanks to both Hans and Stefan for the hospitality!

As an Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery fan, you know that our cooperative is owned by 350 dairy farm families from Wisconsin and Minnesota. They represent a fraction of the farm families across our great country who are facing some extremely challenging times.

Low milk prices are wiping out dairy farmers, and impacting entire rural communities.
