Grey weather means laundry upon laundry, hot tea, spooky movies, miscellaneous cleaning, and finally pulling the hoodies back out. 🍂☕👻

This particular grey Friday, though, comes with a little extra excitement...

Because this time next week, we'll finally be able to share a secret we've been keeping. 👀

All of the nuggets need to discover it first, so we're keeping it tucked away just a little longer. ❤️

After that?

Stay tuned for the newest bit of chaos we've brought to Blended Barnyard. 🤫

It's funny how some things come full circle.

The nuggets have been hooked on the newer versions lately, so tonight I introduced them to the one that started it all for me.

Watching them get just as excited made me feel like a kid again.

Who remembers this one? 👀

We've been enjoying all the programs and events our local library has to offer this summer. This week they sent us home with a "Build Your Own Alien" take-and-make activity as part of the Summer Reading program.

Needless to say...this was a hit. 🤣 It was the perfect way to spend another dreary afternoon, and the boys had an absolute blast.

I'm so thankful for our little library and the amazing staff who work so hard to make these programs happen.

Small towns really do things differently, and it's one of the many reasons I'm grateful to call this place home. ❤️📚

Sediment happens. 🤷🏼‍♀️

But that jiggle jiggle? That's perfection. 👌🏼

Store bought could never. 🤣

That's all-natural gelatin from slowly simmering homemade broth. Once heated, it melts right back into a rich broth.

Lately, these two have wanted to help with everything—from opening the chicken coop in the mornings to chores around the homestead.

Today we returned a mountain of cans, ran a few errands for the farm, and ended our afternoon adventure at the library before heading home.

Once we got home, they were right back beside me in the kitchen, brushing garlic knots for dinner.

They may slow me down sometimes, but watching them learn, work hard, and take pride in helping is worth every extra minute.

These ordinary days are some of my favorite memories. ❤️

I tried making pretzels the other day.

I failed... beautifully. 🤣

Apparently kneading a brand new recipe completely by hand while you're overstimulated doesn't always lead to happy endings.

So...

I tried again.

I put myself in a little bubble in the kitchen, cleared my mind, and got to work.

This time?

Soft, fluffy, buttery pretzels that turned out even better than I hoped.

The best possible surprise to have waiting for the nuggets at lunchtime. 🥨💛

Cold, rainy mornings just hit different.

J decided he wanted something besides cereal this morning, so we landed on homemade chocolate chip scones.

While they baked, the wood stove crackled, Christmas music somehow found its way onto the playlist (in July 😂), and the house smelled like warm chocolate.

Final verdict? Two happy boys, one cozy morning, and two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

I'd probably use a few less chocolate chips next time—they were a little chocolate-heavy for me—but my tiny taste testers completely disagreed. 🤣

Recipe we used included at the end if you'd like to give them a try!

I meticulously planted our garden. Row after row. Carefully spaced, companion planted where it made sense, and harvests staggered so we'd have fresh vegetables throughout the season.

Then the wild turkeys waged war...and mostly won. 💀

Corn? Gone. Beans? Gone. Cucumbers? Gone. Carrots? MIA.

The main survivor?

The one crop I planted for sh*ts and giggles. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

So now I have a 9×13 pan full of turnips... and we don't even like turnips.

(Update: As I was typing this out, Foreman and I just found flowering squash plants, so apparently there's still a tiny rebellion happening in the garden. 🌼🎃)

At least the turnip greens won't go to waste—the bearded dragon is about to have a gourmet homegrown salad. 🦎🥬

As promised, from flour to finished rolls... here are the pumpkin cinnamon rolls our family loves. 🎃🤎

Simple ingredients, a little patience, and a bit of time are all it takes to make these cozy little morsels of deliciousness.

The full recipe is in the final slides! 😉
Save it for your next baking day.

🧡 A little peek behind the scenes...

Come join me for the (slightly abridged 😉) process of kneading pumpkin cinnamon roll dough.

One batch for us, and another batch for Momma. ❤️

🎃 The finished rolls (and the recipe!) will be making an appearance soon!
