🧶 Another mystery yarn find in the stash today!

I haven't been able to pin down the exact age of this skein, but it's looking like it may be from the 1970s. Despite its age, this yarn is still in amazing condition. The center-pull strand was even still neatly tucked underneath the wrapper after all these years! 🤣

I absolutely love finding little pieces of crafting history like this.

Apparently my yarn stash contains artifacts.

I pulled out this thrifted skein today for a project and finally stopped to really look at the label.

First clue: 79¢.

Second clue: Kmart.

Obviously, I had to investigate.

Turns out Caron Soft 'n Easy first appeared in 1980, made with Monsanto's then-new “Remember” acrylic fiber—which this gloriously old wrapper still advertises.

I can't pin down the exact year this particular skein was made, but it could very realistically have spent 40+ years waiting around before eventually landing in a thrift store...
where I apparently said, “Yep, I'll take that.”

And now, in 2026, I'm finally using it for a project.

Even better? I pulled out another thrifted skein recently that still had an Ames tag on it.

At this point, my yarn stash is becoming less of a craft supply and more of a retail history exhibit.

Anybody else have ancient yarn hiding in their stash? 😂

The secret is officially out. 🖤🐾

Meet the newest members of the Blended Barnyard: Obsidian (Sid) and Basalt (Salty) — affectionately known as the Mineral Twins. 😂

These sisters are just over a year old and have already made themselves very much at home.

Salty is our little social butterfly. Everyone is her best friend, everything is exciting, and personal space is merely a suggestion.

Sid is our scruffy little gargoyle. She's suspicious of the general public, has opinions about basically everything, and somehow decided that I am her emotional support human. She can usually be found attached to some portion of my body while judging whatever has displeased her.

They've already brought plenty of chaos, cuddles, questionable noises, and an unreasonable amount of sass into our home.

We were only planning on adding one dog…

Apparently that plan didn't survive contact with reality. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Well. I guess outside chores are canceled. 🤣🌧️

The mountain is getting absolutely drenched today, so I think we’ll be appreciating the homestead from this side of the window.

Cozy seats by the fireplace, the kids’ painted rocks on the sill, and the sound of pouring rain?

I can think of worse ways to spend a Tuesday. 🖤

This particular grey Friday, though, comes with a little extra excitement...

It's funny how some things come full circle.

The nuggets have been hooked on the newer versions lately, so tonight I introduced them to the one that started it all for me.

Watching them get just as excited made me feel like a kid again.

We've been enjoying all the programs and events our local library has to offer this summer. This week they sent us home with a "Build Your Own Alien" take-and-make activity as part of the Summer Reading program.

Needless to say...this was a hit. 🤣 It was the perfect way to spend another dreary afternoon, and the boys had an absolute blast.

I'm so thankful for our little library and the amazing staff who work so hard to make these programs happen.

Small towns really do things differently, and it's one of the many reasons I'm grateful to call this place home. ❤️📚

Lately, these two have wanted to help with everything—from opening the chicken coop in the mornings to chores around the homestead.

Today we returned a mountain of cans, ran a few errands for the farm, and ended our afternoon adventure at the library before heading home.

Once we got home, they were right back beside me in the kitchen, brushing garlic knots for dinner.

They may slow me down sometimes, but watching them learn, work hard, and take pride in helping is worth every extra minute.

These ordinary days are some of my favorite memories. ❤️

I tried making pretzels the other day.

I failed... beautifully. 🤣

Apparently kneading a brand new recipe completely by hand while you're overstimulated doesn't always lead to happy endings.

So...

I tried again.

I put myself in a little bubble in the kitchen, cleared my mind, and got to work.

This time?

Soft, fluffy, buttery pretzels that turned out even better than I hoped.

The best possible surprise to have waiting for the nuggets at lunchtime. 🥨💛
