I just submitted my photos to our regional highland association, North Central Highland Cattle Association, to compete to be in their yearly calendar! I’ve made it in a few years, but forgot to submit last year. A member could submit one photo for every season. It took forever to find the “perfect” horizontal pictures, as I have more cattle pictures on my phone than kids these days 😅

The NCHCA is a perfect resource for anyone looking for reputable local breeders in the area, as to not get scammed on Facebook.

The white stuff on the ground this morning is like a cruel joke! Even the chickens didn’t want to come out of their coop.

My egg layer’s coop is amazing, thanks to Joe! When the ground is no longer muddy, I hook up my gator to the front, move it to fresh grass, and allow the chickens to have a fresh area fenced off by netted fencing for about 5-7 days and move again. It makes cleaning the coop during these months a breeze since there’s lattice under the roosting bars and access to the nesting boxes from the outside. They also get fed organic feed from a local Wisconsin feed producer (Cashton). I currently have about 50 chickens and charge $4/dozen for eggs.

Do you have a cattle call you use? We inherited the “cow friends” call from the family we bought our original cattle from 5 years ago and it has stuck. It’s one of my favorite things to do! 😍

Oakley was worried I was going to make him move from one of the last snow piles on the farm 😆

A new bale rolled out makes for some happy cattle this morning! We currently have 22 cattle on site and 4 off site that are too young to be with the bull. We also have a mix of AHCA registered and unregistered cattle because some of my favorites are unregistered (JoJo 😍).

This evening for dinner, I used our beef, eggs, and tomatoes to make homemade spaghetti and meatballs!

I made about 25 quarts of spaghetti sauce late last summer and use a family recipe of Joe’s family to make the meatballs! Our highland grass fed beef is PERFECT for meatballs, as it’s low fat. Studies from highland organizations show highland beef is lower in fat and cholesterol, while also being higher in protein and iron than other conventional commercial beef breeds.

It’s so good that we’re sold out of 1/4, 1/2, and whole beef until next year! We have plenty of cuts and burger in our store for you to try, though! 🥩

Sassy is one of our most prolific cows and best moms we have on the farm. Despite her name, she is incredibly patient and very maternal to all of her offspring 😊

We close at 1pm today!

Joe says I post too many pictures of Northern Lights, so here’s my cows again. We moved the cows to the south to give the cow yard a break and recover from mud, so a few yearlings were confused this morning about where to get fed. Barbie was especially stubborn about going back where she was supposed to go 😅

Our store offers the below for purchase:

• Pasture raised and organically fed eggs
• Pasture raised and organically fed chicken
• Pasture raised and organically fed pork
• Grass fed beef
