Watering the girls yesterday. They followed me half way to the creek then gave up on me. Lol Decided to not put the electric net up. Ground is to dry and hard to push the steaks into the ground.

Things have slowed down some for a bit. Hay is all done for the year. Corn and soybean harvest will start in a couple weeks. Meanwhile Andrew and Gavin are getting caught up on bushhoging. Waiting for more baby pigglets to be born. Our Aryshire (Dairy) x Shorthorn ( Beef) heifer calf will be weaned the end of the month. I will be back to milking twice a day. Finally got what is left of the turkeys outside.

The gilt is still holding them hostage. Was up throughout the night doing checks. We have our turbo fan on her and spray her with cool water often. I'm noticing some small signs of labor like up and down, clean out and biting at the crate.

With in 24 hours or less we should have babies. Expressed a little milk this morning and she isn't interested in eating. This picture was taken yesterday afternoon and her milk line has noticably changed since then.
For fun how many do you guess she will have?
This will be her first farrowing.

We have not 1, not 2 but 3 bred gilts. Yay!!! The first blue gilt has the start of a milk line. The second blue gilt has a belly and our big white gilt belly keeps on getting deeper. All three are half sisters, same mom. White one was born January 2021 and the two blues were born June 2022. The white gilt weighs 550-600 # easily. From previous experience with gilts like her I'm guessing we will have no less than 14 pigs in her first farrowing. The other two I'm guessing at least 5-7. Thier mom never gets very big but has 7-9 her last two farrowings. Sorry about the rambling I'm excited! I love baby animals especially pigglets. Also sorry for the crappy video. I'm not a picture or video taker Lol. I take a lot of pictures and video to help me remember specific dates so i can go back and reference.

Expecting our first litter of pigglets since early 2022. Thought our new boar was worthless. But looks like he has gotten the job done. Last date I wrote down on my calendar was April 14. That would be August 6 and she is no where near ready. Pigs come into heat every 18-21 days. So next date would be August 27 she could be due. Gilts start showing earlier than sows. Once her milk line starts forming I will have a better idea.
She is a cross and the boar is a Old Spot x Berkshire.

This is a keeper Texel x Hamp ewe lamb we raised this year. As I have been learning about fleece quality this girls fleece would be what spinners are looking for. All that crimp. Looks even better in person. Also if you know of a good sheep shearer let me know. The people I had doing it ghosted me and another person locally.
