This just in: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act. Thank you to everyone who joined — your voices mattered.

With today’s passage of this bipartisan bill, schools now have the option to serve whole and reduced-fat (2%) milk again. The bill now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

This is an important step toward providing families and students with more nutritious, wholesome choices during critical meal times.

We thank Representatives Congressman Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) and Congresswoman Kim Schrier (D-Wash.), more than 115 bipartisan co-sponsors, and Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kan.) and Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) for their leadership in advancing legislation to restore whole milk options in school cafeterias.

This is just another great example of the power we hold when we all work together!

Bonna Terra Farm is very proud to sell our milk to Upstate Niagara Milk Co-operative. Upstate Niagara is a local Western New York (WNY) milk co-operative owned by 350 WNY dairy farmers. WNY is noted for high quality milk products as well as for serving our local communities. Our fluid milk is sold in the two major grocery store chains of the area, Wegman’s and Tops, where it can be found under their store brand labels. Our milk is also sold under our own “Upstate Farms” label, and can be found in most of the local convenience stores and chain stores and in Walmart as well.

Fun fact; Our world famous yogurt is distributed to all the United States as well as on airlines to Alaska, South Africa, and New Zealand. Our cottage cheese, sour cream, and cheese dips are also very popular in our area stores. Our soft ice cream mix is wholesaled all over the east coast.

Our Upstate Niagara Co-op is the major owner of O-AT-KA Milk Products Co-op in Batavia, NY. O-AT-KA is a balancing plant where our surplus perishable milk is converted into canned evaporated milk, butter and milk powder which can be stored and shipped long distances. Most of our evaporated milk goes to Puerto Rico and Mexico. Our butter and powder is shipped all over the U. S. as well as to world markets.

Month after month, we receive “quality bonuses” from our local Upstate-Niagara Milk Co-Op. Year after year, we receive “Dairy of Distinction” awards. These awards have become commonplace for us due to the many steps that are taken daily at the farms and beyond. A structured routine, processes and repeated testing assures that the cleanest, safest methods are used; and only the most delicious and wholesome milk makes it to your table…and ours!
