It's a bittersweet day for us.

After two fantastic years, we're making a big transition this winter. Plum Run Flowers is leaving the cut flower side of life, and will no longer be a part of our local farmers markets.

Starting Monday, I am stepping back into nonprofit work fulltime. This has been a fantastic adventure, and we're really proud of what we built the business into. But we're in need of more stability for our family, and a wonderful position came open. In just two years, it's gotten a lot harder to sustain a family on a teacher's salary and income from a small business.

Then intention now is to continue with producing native plants at a backyard nursery scale. You probably won't see much from us in public for awhile, but we'll explore special events and festivals once things are more settled.

We're so grateful for the friends we've made, the loyal customers we've gotten to know, and the ways we got to build community and a small business. I can't express enough gratitude to the family that cheered us on while we worked to build all of this.

We'll be seeing you,
Jeremiah

Hey folks! We've been working on a few things since the frost brought an end to fresh flowers last month. Come see us Saturday at the Versailles Presbyterian Church for dried wreaths, wheat wreaths, handmade bird boxes, and a few handcrafted wooden items. Come say hello!

I can't recommend attending this event enough. If you're not familiar with Doug Tallamy, his work is some of what inspired Eliza and I to start planting in native species. If you're interested in biodiversity for coming generations, this event is for you. Hope to see you there!

Mark your calendars! Esteemed professor, ecologist, and author of "Nature's Best Hope", Doug Tallamy, will be attending the Fall 2024 Urban Forest Initiative seminar on December 5th! Tallamy will be discussing how each of us can take simple steps to help reverse declining biodiversity in our landscaping.

It's first frost at Plum Run Flowers.

As expected, I arrived at the farm this morning to find a killing frost. It's absolutely a painful relief for me. It means the end of the fresh flower season for 2024. It also means rest, repairs and improvements for me and the farm.

So where do we go from here? Keep an eye out for holiday market opportunities for us. We will have bird boxes for sale, dried flower products, and some woodworking items over the winter.

I'm also looking forward to substitute teaching around Fayette County in the coming weeks. So follow along here for updates and adventures on the farm!

It's our last fresh flowers of the season!

Cold? Gloomy? Swing by for the last flowers of the season! We've got zinnias, dahlias, and we even found a few sunflower stems the hurricane rain didn't flatten.

Happy Monday folks! Looking at the forecast, tomorrow (Tuesday) is almost certain to be our last flower market. There's frost expected over the next few nights, and that means that the blooms we've been enjoying this summer will be gone. It's a bittersweet moment.

In a couple of weeks, I'll miss it again. But this farmer is tired! I'm looking forward to making farm repairs and improvements, making orders for flowers next year, and substitute teaching this winter. Come see me tomorrow morning if you can, but bundle up!!!
