Till & Keep Farm

Till & Keep Farm Till & Keep Farm is a small, faith-rooted family farm growing food naturally—no synthetic chemicals.

From Genesis 2:15, we’re called to “till and keep” the land. We grow a wide variety of fruits—classic, native, and unique—and vegetables.

It’s been a great spring break here at Till & Keep Farm. We are one giant step closer to being able to open our Pick-Your-Own days here at the farm this summer.

In total we planted:

4800 onions
2400 beets
120 tomatoes in the high tunnel

Our first fruit to bloom this year is aronia berry (also known as chokeberry)! 🌸

While they aren’t great eaten fresh, these superfruits make delicious jams and syrups and are packed with antioxidants. This year we’re hoping to add some to our fruit leathers along with our elderberries to give them an extra health boost.

Even though spring hasn’t technically started we are in full swing here at the farm getting ready for a much bigger year. Stay tuned for some exciting updates regarding our Pick-Your-Own events we will be offering at the farm this year.

Tomorrow at the Bardstown Farmers market from 8am-12pm we will have a few new items!

1. Our favorite strawberry variety: Malwina

This variety is rich, dark red, and one of the sweetest varieties you can get! It also happens to be the latest June bearing strawberry available. While other strawberries are finished producing we still have weeks of strawberries to come!

2. Pasture-raised and cage-free chicken!

These birds spent more than half their life roaming the rows of our orchard and able to forage on fresh grass, clover, and whatever bugs they could catch. They weren’t cooped up in a huge commerical barn or in a small chicken tractor you will sometimes see people use. They were fed a Non-GMO feed from a local feed mill and processed by a local Amish state permited processor. All of the money you spend on this chicken is staying right here in Kentucky and you have the pleasure of knowing the chicken you are eating got to live the life of a real chicken.

We will also have our fresh raspberries and microgreens available as well!

BIG NEWS!

1. We will be at the Bardstown farmers market tomorrow with 23 containers of Raspeberries, 10 strawberries, and plenty of sunflower, pea, broccoli, and radish shoots. Show up early before we sell out! Also as you can tell we figured out our label maker finally! 🙂

2. BIGGER NEWS: we qualified for a USDA NRCS High Tunnel Grant and in the next few months we will be putting up a beautiful new high tunnel. High tunnels are protected growing environments which will allow us to grow even better chemical free produce and fruit. We will be focusing mainly on salad greens in this tunnel, but will also dabble in some specialty fruits such as figs and perhaps muscadine grapes.

We had a great first day at the Bardstown Farmers Market! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us!

As beginning farmers we learned a lot of valuable lessons today.

1. People are great! The kindness and support of customers and fellow vendors was amazing to see.

2. People love fruit and we should plant even more of it. Our production is still pretty low at this point, but we sold out of our strawberries and raspberries in 45 minutes. As the summer goes on we will have more and more to provide.

3. The sun even on a mild day is hard on greens. What we brought looked great at first, but as the day went on the sun reduced the quality of the microgreens and head lettuce. We are going to insure we can be set up in the shade as well as find a way to keep our greens on ice packs while on display.

If you purchased something from us today and you aren’t totally satisfied with it please message us and we will be happy to do whatever we can to make it right.

Thank you again to anyone who came out to support us or prayed for us today!
