Long time no see! Some of you might remember that our friend Debbie Logsdon Haeberlin of Karst Kreek Farms won a pair of earrings playing our game "who's topline is it Anyway?" So now we all get to play what earrings will Debbie pick . This is before we play a new goat game. Here are the choices. I have been kinda lax posting. But I thought you might want at least a breeding updated.
I liked the Cross of Pangea Essence of Amaranth and Kara-Kahl Invictus Rising Sun so well that we repeated that breeding. This is the breeding that produce Pangea Raising Nightshade and Pangea Essence of Sunlight (needa) there is an open buck reservation if anyone is interested.

There was interest in seeing the whole kid. This is the kid under the cabinet. She did not stay in our herd because she was an " oops" kid and born before we can have kids arriving. We do not breed for kids born before the second week in April. This doeling arrived in January. So she went to another herd at three weeks old .
She was a nice kid. They got a great deal.

I need an updated picture of her , but now she is shaggy. Have to wait until spring.
But wasn't she a cute baby?

And she can make Bobby look like he knows how to stack a goat. That is a real miracle right there.
But you can tell by the kid picture that no stacking is really required.
However she walks like a plow horse, so that is the challenge.

This was what happened when I had put a doe kid in my bathroom without her being in a tote to dry off and get warm. This is one of those learn from your mistake moments. I will never leave a new born out of a tote again. This is a reminder to me for next spring.

There was interest in kitty, and I get that, because she is a pretty doe. But she was not always.
Here are some pictures as proof for all of you that are new here.
I named her "A Caterpillar Dream" because I really hoped she would turn into a butterfly.
As you can see from her newborn picture that was a big ask to the universe.
Then we see her at about eight months old as a bucket of parts. Still not the butterfly I was asking for , but trying hard to get there.

Then we see her in the show ring as a dry Jr yearling the day she won her restricted leg. And she is the baby butterfly I was hoping for there.

Then we see her as a fat moth. Very bred and in need of a wide load sign.

Then the business end of a less than hour fresh new milking two year old. She had the production i was looking for and has maintained that.

Then her being her regal self as a three year old. Still maintaining productivity and looking good while doing so.

And finally her last night as a coming five year old chilling in her coming winter work clothes, finishing up her dinner after milking.

I am conflicted about her breeding this fall.
But I think since I will not be doing the breeding that was originally planned for her, she may very well be bred to "Acres-of-Goats M La Grange " for Purebred Experimentals. Because of you don't already know I like my mutts. And this breeding would bring things to a kid that should make a really outstanding animal. And be of benefit no matter what direction a person might choose to take the kids in a future breeding program.

It is not only kids that are derpy.
A lot of you will recognize kitty. You normally see her looking regal.
But this is a doe that has to groom me any chance she gets. Normally when you see a doe with her tongue out it is because i have a treat for her. This is not the case with kitty. She does it because she is getting ready to try to lick my face like an over exuberant Labrador.
She is not the only one of my does that is like this. But she is by far the fastest and most persistent. She is all about the sneak . Or the surprise. This grooming behavior is more pronounced when I am sick or injured. And as per my last post I am currently injured.

OH! And about her surprises. This is the doe that as a dry yearling, at the Hoosier Classic, in the champion drive, nearly broke Shane's hand.
She was over it and done. She is like a red mare.
She reared up, flipped over twisting Shane's hand in the show chain and nearly took him down with her. Needless to say she didn't win champion in that ring. The judge was not appreciative of her antics. And yet she is one of Shane's favorite does. She is better behaved now days ....most of the time.
But always sweet. She is also the doe that if she comes in the milkroom and another doe is on her preferred stand, she will wait until that doe gets off of her stand rather than just getting on the empty stand. She is a little OCD.
But then aren't we all, about some things?

Since I have jacked up my knee yet again, poor Bobby is on lead training. Because Falcor is such a late kid (July 10th) he didn't get as much lead training as the other kids when he was a tiny baby. That is because it was just him and his sister in the pen so no need to take them out to feed them.
But as you can tell he is shaping up to be a big boy. And he is going to be our heat detector this year. So he needs to lead easy. Bobby says the struggle is real. Neither one of them are happy.
I may offer the same deal on him as I have on Tribute's Savior . A super cheap private treaty breeding to get more registered kids on the ground.
He is not just flashy, he is correct.
I can hardly wait to see kids from him.

I post mostly about pretty goats. Rest assured I have some ugly goats as well, even if I am not regularly posting pictures of them. They serve a purpose. They give me important information I need on bucks I am using and what they can fix and what they can not fix.
This is not about a geneticly ugly goat. But is about an ugly goat .
This doe has a congenital defect. She was out of a set of quads. The smallest kid. The others were born half grown. She could not stand or raise her head when she was born. And the curve you see in her spine was much more pronounced. Jesse ( my son) spent a lot of time working with her because he took one look at her and was hooked.
She has gone to a couple of shows when they need a grade to make numbers. She has no problems with movement now. .She is very high up in the hierarchy of the herd. Mostly through sheer "orneryness" . That is also probably why she over came all of her obstacles to get where she is today. I very much wish she didn't have this flaw. Because other things about her are really fantastic. Like the fact her rump is over 12 inches wide. And flat. So flat from thurl to Thurl it is ridiculous. And she has a beautiful udder when she is uddered up.
She makes lovely kids. That are cursed if they are does. They are very likely to have random self inflicted mystery injuries. The bucks can not be registered because her dam is out of a line I had stopped registering. Truly a mutt. She didn't have Nigerian, Nubian or Guernsey in her. All other dairy goat breeds were in there in multiples down over the years.

But anyway, this is about not throwing away a doe kid that might have struggles at birth.
If you don't have time to give one a chance that is fine. But maybe find someone that can give a girl a chance if the flaw is caused by say three big brothers stomping a growing girl into a corner with no room to move.

Jesse loves this ugly goat. And says she is " superior genetics " ( possible since she is a maternal half sister to both Hela and Harly) And most of the time I am happy to have her in the herd.

Ugly goats serve a purpose and deserve love too. And while they spend most of the time " hiding behind the barn" they too should get their moment in the spotlight.

Just how tame are the skunks of Pangea?
Pretty tame.
Though last night I had to make Erisia leave one of them alone. She was chasing it in the loafing area. It decided after I made her leave it alone that the loafing area was not the best place to nap.
I think it stared out looking for eggs that sometimes a hen will leave in there. And then it was warm in there and it is a lush lazy skunk, naps are a thing.
