Since I made the announcement for our new Junior herd sire I guess it is time to post up a few planned breedings.

First up is all firsts. Needa AKA Pangea Essence of Sunlight will be bred to Kickapoo-valley Fancy LikeThat.

I have big hopes for Needa. I expect she is going to have a beautiful udder based on her dam and grand dam. She is already a very correct little girl.

She already has a doe reservation.
And the possibility that I will retain a doe kid.

Drum roll please

We have talked about Maple-Glen Classic's Angela
And her son Willow Run LA Armand
And his Daughter Willow Run Armand Rishona.

We have talked about Mccann-farm Fancy and her staying power.

But what do all these wonderful animals have to do with our big announcement?

I would like to introduce you to our new junior herd sire. Kickapoo-valley Fancy LikeThat.

Out of Mccann-farm Fancy by Willow Run LA Armand.

This young French buck has a dream of a pedigree. And he is not just all on paper.

He has the correctness we love and his substance of bone is outstanding. He is tall and long and open in the ribs. All the things you want in a buck. You could drive a truck through his area of Escutcheon. Did I mention he is " sturdy" nothing frail about him. And yet he is dairy sharp. Really i could go on all day.

He will be seeing heavy use in our herd this year.

As we all know Bobby does not stack goats so you get a picture on the move. Long hair and all. I swear the back mane on him is four inches long and THICK.

The aforementioned pedigree for those of you that are interested in those things.

Technically this is still history. Because the doe we are taking about today won the ADGA reserve national champion title back in 2021.

Of course I am talking about GCH Mccann-farm Fancy. There is a lot to love about this doe she is so correct and just beautiful to look at. But she is not just another pretty face. She is also a working girl. She earned a lifetime milk/Butterfat award and back on the subject of being a pretty face , she landed a 8-04 FS 93EEEE score on Linear appraisal.
And this year she was the oldest doe at the national show at the age of 11 and still managed to get a best udder in her class.
That ole girl has some staying power.
And who doesn't want correct does with staying power?
I have included not just a picture of Fancy from her reserve national champion win but also Fancy as a 10 year old including her 10 year old rear udder. Check those out.

We talked about preparing your bucks for breeding season. And this applies to the preparing of not just your bucks but your does as well.

Parasites are the number one cause of loss in goats. And it can happen faster than you think.

You might remember this little criminal from last year. Her on going effort to release herself and her friends from their pen was at least entertaining to watch. She was very dedicated to her life of crime.

I had people wondering who we kept out of the yearling keeper pen since we parted with so many . So I figured I would start with yearling introductions

She was mad and didn't even want to look at the camera she has a very nice Alpine head when she doesn't distract from it with angry ears. I will put the angry ears in the comments.

If you have not already started preparing your bucks for breeding season here is your sign!

Copper bolus for those in Copper deficient areas.

If you don't already keep a cobalt block out like I do, now is the time.

Selenium, if you are having bucks collected this fall look at your collection date. Selenium needs done 9 to 10 weeks out. Anything less than 8 weeks will impact your post thaw motility. Don't skip the Selenium in those areas that are deficient. Just don't put it off.

I use multi min gel daily on my bucks leading up to breeding season. Some people like to just give a multi vitamin shot. The gel gives me reason to keep a close eye on the boys leading into the season. A dose of B complex is also a thing i do.

Get those fecals done. Dewormer should be used for anyone carrying a close borderline load of parasites. Bucks are under stress during rutt and this tends to cause a bloom.
They don't need anything sucking the life out of them when they are p*eing twice their body volume a day.

Speaking of the liquid issue. Double their access is a good idea . And if part of that is an electrolyte all the better.

Clip their belly and sheath you do not want hair pulling back into the sheath . It can cause infection and ruin your breeding plans.

Trim those feet. You want those back feet to have a good level sturdy surface. I also like to put on a coat of hooflex.

A pink salt block is not necessary but will make them thirsty and the more they drink the better.

Keeping desetin or A&E ointment on hand is a great idea. Urine scald can be a big problem and can lead to infection.

Restock your first aid kit. Bucks in rutt can be stupid. They might try to climb fences or get into a hard disagreement with another buck.
Blood stop powder in the kit is a good idea.

Buy a new box of disposable gloves. My boys don't understand why when they got petted as a kid they would not still get petted when their face is covered in p*e. I use gloves.

Your buck is half your herd. Treat them well.
They are about to take years off their own lives to give you that kid crop you are dreaming of.
Treat them with the love they deserve.
