Our commitment to sustainable agriculture, artisanal producers of local products, and delicious regional foods are a few of the things that set us apart. Our Ends Statement:
People in Bloomington and Sout

h Central Indiana will have…
• A market for local, fair and healthful products, produced with care for the land, animals, and future generations.
• A democratic cooperative-ownership model that provides meaningful employment and strengthens the community.
• A robust and sustainable local food economy with fair prices for producers and all owner-members.
• Access to education on food systems, cooperative values, and the interconnectedness of food, health, and the environment. About Cooperatives:
Cooperatives (Co-ops) are member-owned, member-governed businesses that operate for the benefit of their owner-members according to common principles agreed upon by the international cooperative community. Co-ops are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others. Co-ops are built on seven core principles:
• Voluntary and open membership
• Democratic member control
• Member economic participation
• Autonomy and independence
• Education, training and information
• Cooperation among cooperatives
• Concern for community

All Co-ops contain the following elements:
• Co-ops are owned and governed by their primary users (the owner-members).
• Co-ops are democratically governed (one owner-member, one vote).
• Co-ops are businesses, not clubs or associations.
• Co-ops adhere to internationally recognized principles.

🤯 Did you know you can make a zero-waste aphid and mite spray for your plants with just water and tomato leaves?!

🌱 Tomato leaves release natural, toxic alkaloids that act as a botanical neurotoxin to soft-bodied pests, which is a great pest deterrent for non-nightshade plants.

🫙All you have to do is cut off a cup of tomato leaves from your tomato plants, crush them in your hands, place in a jar, pour two cups of boiling water into the same jar, let steep for 24hrs, remove the tomato leaves, and spray on your plants!

⚠️ This spray is safe for humans when handled and sprayed normally. However, it carries a moderate toxicity warning for pets (dogs and cats) if they lick the wet leaves or ingest the raw mixture due to tomatine and solanine, natural chemical defenses found within the nightshade.

🎨 THIS FRIDAY, June 5th, join us in Gallery B at our Near West Store for Gallery Walk Bloomington from 5-8pm and meet Irina Shishova and admire her Catching the Motion series! This will be your last chance to see her show during Gallery Walk in our gallery!

🌸 Catching the Motion is a vibrant exhibition of paper collage works by Irina Shishova, drawn from three of her recent series: Dancing Shapes, Flying Leaves, and Seasons’ Faces. Across all three collections, the artist focuses on a single, unifying goal — capturing motion. Whether it’s the graceful energy of women dancing, the fluttering fall of leaves, or the ever-shifting essence of the seasons personified as feminine forms, motion becomes the subject and the medium. The works are dynamic, bold, and full of emotional momentum.

💚 To learn more about the artist, please visit the Gallery B page on our website: www.bloomingfoods.coop/galleryb.

Make a Positive Change by rounding up your total at the register for New Hope for Families in June! Thanks to our anonymous donor, funds raised during the first seven days of June will be matched! 💚

New Hope for Families is the only agency in the city of Bloomington, or in Monroe County, that provides emergency shelter to families, together with their children, regardless of the family composition. Over 80% of the families who stay in our shelter move directly into a lease in their name that they can afford (compared to a state average of 32%). New Hope operates an early learning program that prioritizes children impacted by homelessness, with a capacity of more than 50 children (birth through age 5), and serves more than 21,000 meals and nutritious snacks per year. In addition, New Hope operates a food pantry, which serves our clients but is also open to others in the community.

💙 Donations of any size can also be made at any time. Thank you for making a positive change!

📣 Owner-Members–still thinking about running for our Board of Directors? Well, you have more time to think about it and submit a candidate packet! The deadline to submit a candidate packet has been extended to Friday, June 5th!

🌱Reasons YOU should join our Board of Directors:

💙 Make a difference. Bloomingfoods is a non-profit co-op. That means that it is owned by its members, who in turn elect a board to provide oversight to the General Managers of the stores. If you care about the future prosperity of the organization, you can make a real difference by serving on the Board of Directors.

💙 Learn something new. It’s very rare that someone comes to the Bloomingfoods Board with experience in providing oversight to a grocery store. This is your chance to learn from the GMs what it takes to make Bloomingfoods successful and the Board’s role in achieving that success. Whether it’s understanding the co-op’s operating policies, reading financial reports, creating business plans, or following the latest health food trends, the board and staff share a useful and rewarding expertise.

💙 Stay informed. There’s no better way to know what’s going on at Bloomingfoods than to serve on the board. As the co-op grows and changes, you understand and contribute to those decisions.

💙 Build relationships. In addition to the board, you’ll become closer with staff and owner-members. You will be able to work with people who share your interest in the health and community goals of a special organization like Bloomingfoods.

💙 Financial rewards. Board members receive Bloomingfoods gift cards totaling $2,000+ per year.

Are you passionate about the future of Bloomingfoods? Do you have great ideas or business experience that you’d like to share with the Co-op? We are seeking candidates to fill four positions this fall.

💌 You can pick up a candidate packet at one of our Bloomingfoods locations or download it from our website. The deadline to submit your Candidate Packet has been extended to Friday, June 5th! For more information, visit www.bloomingfoods.coop/run-for-the-board (🔗 in bio)!
