We have a gorgeous round of veggies coming your way tomorrow! Yesterday we harvested what must be our best batch of summer carrots ever--perfectly long and straight, great yield--so plenty of those tomorrow. We are skipping beets for this week, but look for them next week. Zucchini is in! We'll have zucchini at all 3 markets, and we'll have a small amount of cucumbers at Broad Ripple. We have dill and green onions galore, and your staples like lettuce and mushrooms as well.
We're in full pruning/weeding/harvesting mode around the farm these days. The tomatoes and cucumbers relentlessly demand our attention, the ongoing rain gifts us with SO many weeds, and luckily the harvests are keeping us super busy also! I'm excited to see our first true warm season crops come to fruit, knowing that of course there are more coming soon. And I know everyone on the farm was relieved to get a break from the sweltering heat of last week! In some of our less-developed plots we planted several hundred broccoli, green beans, and cabbages. We're currently fighting the deer for ownership of those fields though, so fingers crossed that we win 😆
Come say hi tomorrow and grab some fresh summer goodies! 😊

Good morning everyone. We are still on the lookout for a couple helping hands at the markets. Saturday mornings only, same day pay, $15/hour. Read below to learn more!

Hi everyone. We are nearing the time of year when we'll be needing some extra help at the markets. We are looking for a couple stand assistants for our Broad Ripple Farmers Market booth and our Carmel Farmers Markets booth. For Broad Ripple, the position would start as soon as mid-May, and the Carmel position would start in early July. Both will run until about September, when the markets begin to wind down again.
This is a weekly position, on Saturdays only, from approximately 6:00am-12:30. The right candidate for this position MUST be consistent and punctual. We rely on a stand assistant to be there on time every Saturday morning through the summer. Days off must be planned in advance.
You will help us unload vehicles, set up tents and tables, create the market display, help customers during market, then break down the stand, and reload vehicles at the end of market. The produce coolers weight up to 100lbs, and you must be physically able to team-lift them with us. Pay is $15/hour, paid same day.
This is a fun, seasonal position for someone who is interested in learning about local food. You'll have first pick of produce in the morning, and free leftovers when available.

TO APPLY: Please do not approach us at market while we have customers! You are welcome to come talk to us in person if we do not have customers, but those moments are usually brief. Alternatively, you can email us a brief description of what interests you in this position, and why you think you'd be a good fit.

Good morning everyone! We are looking forward to a rain-free forecast for market day, finally! We had an incredible harvest of beets yesterday, we have fresh new cabbages heading to market, and today we'll be harvesting kale and chard to add to the mix.
We spent most of our non-harvesting time this week trying to plant into some very wet beds. I say "trying" because we had to employ a technique usually reserved for April plantings, when we typically get our Spring rains. Since they've come in May this year instead, most of our transplants right now are scheduled to go into the wetter side of the farm, which we normally don't plant out until the Spring rains have passed. But, that's how it goes with farming. It's best to have a plan, and be prepared for the plan to change. We did have 1 somewhat dry day, so we were able to get some compost onto these beds before more rain hit. We then planted kale, eggplant, and peppers with a technique we refer to as "mucking it in", which simply means doing the best we can and planting each one by hand, since our tools won't work in the mud.
On the dryer side, we also planted more cucumbers and our first round of basil into one of the greenhouses. After our harvests today, we're hoping to get some pruning and trellising done on our tomatoes--we've got about 600 tomato plants waiting for our attention.
Come see us tomorrow, and celebrate new foods with us as the season begins to shift!

Happy Friday everyone! We have had a wet, rainy, and oddly cool week on the farm. Since May and April have apparently decided to switch forecasts, our harvest schedules have been more unpredictable than usual. Some crops were ready earlier in the season than usual, while we wait patiently for other crops that should be ready by now.
For this weekend, we have beautiful fresh kale bunches, swiss chard, plenty of lettuce and mushrooms, baby garlic kale, and more. We have our last round of mini bok choy until Fall, so be sure to grab some before it goes out of season. We'll also have one last little round of spinach for Broad Ripple only. Asparagus will be at Bloomington this week. And we have the first small batch of beets heading to Carmel and Broad Ripple.
Be sure to visit us tomorrow morning, rain or shine, and grab something fresh for your weekend cookouts!

Good morning everyone! Just hopping on here to remind you that we are hiring for 2 market stand assistants. If you love the farmer's market and you want to experience it behind the scenes with us, please reach out!

Today, we're getting ready to harvest kale and lettuce for the markets this weekend. We have been battling the rain all week, but today's forecast looks clear and cool, so we're looking forward to some dryer outdoor work (although its still very muddy out!) Check back tomorrow for our normal market update post :)

Happy Friday everyone! We have some new items trickling in this week, and we have a favorite (spinach) on it's way out. This is likely the LAST week for Spinach until late Fall, so we have a very limited supply going to all 3 markets. Coming in fresh though, we have big beautiful kale bunches heading to all markets tomorrow. We also have a small amount of Chard for Broad Ripple and Carmel. Bloomington will see our first little bit of snap peas! Hopefully we'll have more of those next week. Broad Ripple will also have a round of Asparagus.
For all markets, we have lots of mushrooms, lettuce, mini bok choy, and more! Come see us, rain or shine tomorrow, and grab your favorites!
