Before we were Towaki Brewing Company, we were Guardian Brewing Company in Saugatuck Michigan. In the 5+ years we were open we were able to connect with amazing members of our community and for a special few, we still consider them family.
Dave Cernugel was one of those special people. He passed unexpectedly last week and left a void in the local community. everyone knew him and he was very well loved. Dave started out as a regular Guaridan customer and quickly became was one of our managers. He had such a joyful impact on everyone he met. Dave, known as “Sexy Dave,” (the silly nickname that stuck!) was one of the friendliest and sweetest folks you’d ever want to meet. He was both our team’s calm in a storm when we were in the weeds and one of the first longtime friends you would make when you joined our staff. Dave was a loyal Chicago sports fan, especially the Bears and I will always remember him religiously wearing his jerseys to work during football season. His favorite Guardian beer was by far Nessie Imperial IPA. No one loved Nessie more than Dave and he shared his joy with all who visited. I will never forget all these little memories and his sweet smile. Thank you to the entire Cernugel family for sharing Dave with us. We are forever grateful. Guardian would have not been the same without him. ❤️
