Monday Meat Lovers Report!

"Neither rain, nor sleet, nor 35+mph winds will keep a Vet and crew from breeding cattle!"

When it's time to breed embryo recip cows, you work cows! It was 34 degrees and luckily, the snow stayed west of us. They pulled vaginal implants, gave hormone shots and glued heat detector tags on 99 cows. I have to give credit to everyone else because I was warm and dry in the trailer squirting glue on the tags!

Friends and family, we're down to the wire. Steers will be butchered Tuesday and we have half a steer left! Cost is $2.65/lb plus $.69/lb processing based on hanging weight. We also have hamburger available at $4.25/lb, no minimum but you must order by Monday! This is EXCELLENT, grass raised, grain finished, premium beef. Delivery to Kansas City is Saturday, May 13th. A great day at the Bar V Ranch! Calving season has officially started, with twins! These two little guys were born to a first-time mom and they're all doing great. Then we had a nice, sunny afternoon to move the older mommas to new cornstalks. They'll start calving next month. It's going to be a busy spring!

BRANDING DAY 2016!

Thanks to some very special friends and a hard working crew, we survived another one! Weather couldn't have been better, cool enough for the cows and calves to stay comfortable and warm and dry for the humans, dogs and horses :)

We had the pleasure of hosting the National Agri-Marketing Association Nebraska Chapter for their year-end field trip. Representatives from Ag Companies, Ad Agencies and Ag Publications made the trip from Omaha and Lincoln, NE. We had a wonderful time showing them the ropes and received the following message from Randy Happel of Bader-Rutter Advertising Agency:

"You are to be commended for the quality and ethics by which your cattle are raised and the quality of the beef you produce. I was very impressed. Your hospitality is most appreciated!"

Bar V Beef Meat Lovers Monday Report

A COWBOY IN THE MAKING!

It seems like we just started calving and we're already in the process of breeding for next year's calf-crop! The first group of cows started on their way to "Artificial Insemination" is our first-time moms. 75 heifers received vaginal implants used to improve the timing and efficiency of the "heat" cycle.

We had the best little helper this weekend! Beau just turned one and is already sporting his cowboy belt and chinks, hand made by his dad Ben Hansen (check out Ben's awesome leather crafts at 3H Custom Leather!).
