🌽 The corn isn’t the only thing growing around here!

Our on-farm grain storage is growing, too. We’re working with our local GSI dealer, DM Millwright, to design a complete grain storage system that will be built out over multiple years and phases.

Adding storage capacity gives us more flexibility to keep more of our grain on the farm and wait for the right market opportunities rather than being forced to sell when prices aren’t in our favor.

A lot of planning, a lot of steel, and a whole lot more grain storage coming our way!

Apparently we don’t know how to take it easy on a Friday. Today’s project required every man, woman, and child to get it done — 136’ of concrete pad at the feedlot ✅

Because why enjoy a nice, relaxing Friday when you can spend it pouring concrete in the blazing heat? 😂

It took the whole crew to get it done, and we’re pretty sure everyone earned their Friday night supper and refreshments tonight!

It’s hot out so the cows took matters into their own hands and decided to create their own splash pad! I can’t say that I blame them and now I’m just wondering if we’re invited to join them?

Another week, another set of wild storms…. And this is probably the most severe hail damage we have ever seen to a crop before, but I guess that is what crop insurance is for! We’re just thankful none of our family or crew were hurt!

If anything, events like this remind you of how wonderful it is to have great friends and neighbors and how important it is to BE a great friend and neighbor.

Farming is one of those professions where there will always be a high level of unpredictability and you’ve got to learn to just roll with the punches. There are a lot of things we had planned to accomplish today but mother nature had other plans. So instead we’re clearing down trees out of driveways and off fence lines , hooking up generators so the cattle have access to water and checking fields for damage.

But hey, no one was hurt and at least we got some rain!

Last week we wrapped up planting and this week we’ve shifted our focus to spraying and sidedressing. From here on out it’s a constant process of evaluating and delivering whatever the crop needs to thrive!

We’ve got about one full day of corn planting left to wrap up but we can’t seem to string together enough dry days here in Central Illinois to get it done. So until then, we’re doing some odds and ends, patiently waiting until it’s go time again!

Today was one of those trying days where it was just one thing after another… Blew a radiator line, a hydraulic line, two O-rings, lost a tire off of a hub, and the list goes on and on.

But that’s just how some days go on the farm. A few minutes decompressing from the day with the team and we’ll be back at it tomorrow if the rain holds off!

Got all of the planters put away just in time for the next round of rain to come through. In the meantime we’ll just enjoy the rainbow and continue waiting for things to dry out.
