Dear Valued Customers and Friends,
As the smoke settles and the embers fade, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve shared through the world of barbecue. It has been an absolute honor to cook, serve, drink, share stories, and connect over the joy that comes from good food and great company. That is barbecue to its core. A lot of you have played a vital role in making this experience truly special, and for that, I am deeply grateful. A small back yard bbq gig turned into something much greater.
However, I’ve come to a point where I have realized that barbecue requires more than just part-time attention. The true craft of barbecue demands full commitment—long hours, late nights, and time away from family and friends. It can be brutal on your body, and test your sanity. While I have poured my heart into every dish, I recognize that to truly honor this craft, I must be fully dedicated to it. I have no doubt in my mind that Black Duck Barbecue could be something extraordinary, but not without sacrifices, sacrifices that I’m not willing to make at this time in my life.
With this in mind, I’ve decided to slow down our barbecue operations and focus on some other projects. I will no longer be taking on catering events, or large scale pop ups. I may still participate in some smaller events throughout the year… either as a cook, or a guest, or somewhere in between. This way, I can still connect with all of you and celebrate the joy of barbecue in a more manageable way.
The connections I’ve made and the memories we’ve created together will forever be cherished. I have the utmost respect for the craft of barbecue and even more so for the wonderful people who dedicate their lives to it, this s**t ain’t easy! While I step back for now, I want you to know that this isn’t a goodbye, but rather a ‘see you later.’
Thank you for your unwavering support over the past 5 years (Phew, yes, 5 years!) I hope to stay connected with you all through this new chapter, and I encourage you to keep the spirit of barbecue alive!!!
