It’s getting warm out there, and matching the vibe of your wines with the summer days upon us is essential.
We’re kicking off this week’s tasting with a favorite summer cocktail that puts a lighter spin on a vodka tonic or G&T, the Porto Tonico. Dry White Port mixed with good quality tonic water and a citrus garnish, voila. This refreshing, lower octane cocktail is made for this season and is a must feature for us each June.
1L bottles of Grüner Veltliner are a summer staple, and our newest one from Scenic Valley Farms in Willamette Valley, Oregon has answered the call this year. With a perfect balance of freshness and vibrancy, you’ll be glad this larger format bottle comes with an extra glass or two.
Delicate, dry rosé is another summer essential, and we’re pouring one that is just arriving this week for its annual debut, a favorite of ours from Germany. Coming from vineyards on limestone soils, this rosé displays pristine freshness and begs to be at your next dock day.
Finally, we’re pouring a red wine this week that gained a big following after being a May wine club selection. Introducing club members and tasters to new varietals is part of our focus on exploration, and the reception to this Grignolino from Italy’s Piedmont region was a strong case of validation for why we do so. This stunning red is both light and lively, beaming with flavors of tart cherry, orange zest, rose petal, and a hint of alpine herb.
