Thanks all for reaching out! ππ
Today my most favorite goat Delilahπdrank some water by herself today...last couple of days have been by drench only - and not very much water. She also ate (for the first time in 2 days) some of a tree salad I foraged for her. (This is all kinda a big deal.) Her most favorite trees are here - and she's particularly bougie - so it was good to see her perk up a bit...(plus animal crackers to slip some meds). She's still bleeding a lot, still has a hard time sitting, still in a loooot of pain and still has loads of anxiety I've been trying to help her work with. So many hours every day. We have followup vet visits still and it'll take some time but I'm praying she heals. It's all so awful. But this is the latest. πππ
We miss Jon our dear dead Harlequin sheep. ππ He was the most sheepish & very handsome. He frequently told us his name..."Jaawwn". ππA rare & gentle breed, & their wool is very useful, soft & fluffy. We used & sold his wool and several wool products & we all -sheep included- look forward to shearing day every year. We finally found a pumpkin variety he loved that was very orange, very wet & very cheesy vs the standard jack o lantern he would walk away from. Turned his face orange when he ate it. πThis year I grew a whole mess of them just for him!π± I've been working with him and his buddy for months to earn their trust so the grandbabies can enjoy them up close too and was doing so good. I knew when he didn't feel good, when he was playful n when he was at peace. π
Death by parasites/disease, during birth, wildlife predators, etc.. has been easier to accept than what happened. It's so hard to see them go this way bc we knew him. I'm still very mad about these dogs. They had owners and the dogs immediately went home after the killings. They weren't strays or wild dogs. They should have been trained to not be killers, nor permitted to wander around killing people's animals, their livelihood and friends. They were eventually all put down. So more unnecessary death that unfortunately became necessary. Like all the rest, this too will take some time. π
We now have 2 donks protecting the herd. Our original donk set to arrive in a few days wasn't proven to defend but young/friendly/trainable/harness trained soooooo....with the help of some friends....meet Thelma & Louise (mother n daughter). πππ«π«π our herd was used to our existing labs but I don't think our herd would ever trust a dog again so a LGD isn't in the cards for us at the moment.
So...praise God and all his creation. Even the right trees are here to help heal Delilah. Heal my girl! Praise God for friends and good timing who in a pinch offered their donks & even volunteered to drop off today - and did! The farm community is a great community. I'm so thankful.
And hey we again have an eagle on our property. π¦
Everything will eventually be alright. In the meantime, we're all still healing & praying Delilah makes it out of this. ππ
