I’ve been considering what w**e could truly carry the weight of replacing the Cabernet program we lost in the Big L Fire.

Working with trusted grower partners in the Texas Panhandle, we found exceptional Malbec fruit in 2023. After 2½ years of oak aging and careful evaluation in the cellar, I believe this w**e has earned that place.

The 2023 Malbec is one of the most complete and compelling w**es we’ve produced, deep, structured, expressive, and built with the kind of character we expect from our best dry reds. For that reason, it will be released under our proprietary Paragon label.

Over the past three days, I’ve returned to the w**e repeatedly, tasting it at different stages as it opened and evolved. What follows are my personal tasting notes and impressions of a w**e I believe represents an important new chapter for Bluff Dale Vineyards.

2023 Bluff Dale Paragon (Malbec):

Nose: polished flavors of coffee, violet, dusty chocolate, and ripe plum.

Palate: Blackberry, black and red currant, black cherry, and silky raspberry, layered with well integrated vanilla oak.

Finish: Plush and lingering with prune, ripe red fruit, cocoa, and medium grained tannins.

The JR Band will be back with us Sunday, September 6 from 2:30–5:30 PM.

🍷 🎶 Some traditions are measured in years. This one is measured by decades. They’ve been playing out here for close to 20 years, and if you’ve been around long enough, you may remember when they were the JJR Band—three friends making music together.

Time has a way of changing things. People we love leave us, names get a little shorter, but the music—and the memories tied to it—carry on.

And these guys can really play. They’re seasoned musicians with a huge range, and there’s a good chance they can handle just about any request you throw their way.

So come spend Sunday afternoon with us. Grab a glass of w**e, find a comfortable spot on the patio, take in the view, and enjoy a couple of old friends playing songs in a place they’ve been part of for nearly two decades.
