Nest check this weekend on the martins. 42 nesting pairs with an average of 4 babies per nest. Everybody looked great! Amazing to see the transition from pinkies(just hatched) to purples with those pretty feathers coming in.

Several people asked about this interesting plant today! Here is the 'dirt' on one of my favorite plants.....
African Blue basil is a sterile hybrid basil and doesn't set seed. In the greenhouse it looks like a molting chicken - skinny and half covered, but after a trip to the garden and some summer sun, it becomes a buzzing 3 ft wide ball of fragrant purple flowers that keeps blooming right up to a hard frost. It doesn't survive our winter but well worth getting the cuttings every spring. My favorite use -- having a pollinator meditation by sitting beside it and listening to all the visiting insects.

This years wild experiment ——- straw bale gardening. Jim has been hard at work getting bales ready for their tomato friends. For now, we have a healthy crop of mushrooms exploding out of the sides. ROT AWAY little bales 😊 and make those tomatoes grow!

Cleaning up the blackberry rows this afternoon and all around us were purple martins. A few more weeks and we’ll have these!

Everybody survived the frost earlier this week. Some of us tried to jump the fence - like this amazing French Tarragon. We'll be at Tuscaloosa River Market starting April 1st!

The first round of blackberries is already here and we've been picking every day. I have 3 lb (1 gallon) bags of handpicked frozen berries available for $20/bag for your canning and baking needs.

Don't let that little dusting of SNOW scare you off! Everything in the greenhouse is happy and warm. Hunter the Greenhouse Cat thinks I smell great after transplanting 350 herb starts, including some catnip. Will have our list out for this spring ASAP. If there is anything your are hunting for let me know and I'll try my best to GROW IT or FIND IT for you.
