Towpath Trail Snack Shack Towpath Trail Snack Shack & Peace Park was established to sell hot dogs and trail snacks on the Ohio

The Towpath Trail Snack Shack & Peace Park was established on the Ohio-Erie Canalway near the Stark-Tuscarawas county line between the McDonnell Bolivar aqueduct trail-head and the Village of Bolivar Baseball fields trail-head. We sell the highest quality all beef hot dogs, smoked sausages, gourmet exotic meat sausages and trail snacks to the bird watchers, bikers, hikers, dog walkers, Tuscarawas

River fishermen and canoeist on the Ohio-Erie canal towpath trail where the Greenville peace treaty line crosses the towpath trail. In May 2016 we donated a 12'-20' easement through our property to the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail through the Bolivar Trail development committee chaired by DIck Lebold. Dick was instrumental is convincing me that our property was a key to closing the last remaining gap in the trail between New Philadelphia and Cleveland, Ohio and opening up Tuscarawas county to additional tourism. After the easement was surveyed, we learned that our over-sized storage barn was a few feet from the easement and wouldn't have to be moved. It was immediately realized that an opportunity could exist to sell trail snacks. In the course of learning what we could and couldn't do without a food service license and the expense of adding plumbing to our barn, local Tuscarawas County Health Inspector Greg Dion recommended that we consider developing the project in stages and start with a mobile hot dog cart as stage one. Within a week, we'd acquired a hot dog cart trailer from Lynn Auto Theatre (the oldest drive-in theater in Ohio) and committed to the future. We decided to apply for a food service event license for the Bolivar Strawberry Festival Fathers day weekend to kick the tires and start learning our new trade. On June 29th we submitted our annual food service plan with the goal of being open for business on August 3rd 2017, before the trail construction crew and volunteers start developing the trail across our easement. August 3rd 2017 is also the 222nd anniversary of America's first peace treaty authorized by George Washington and the US Congress and our property is where the treaty line intersects with the trail. We will be attending as many events as feasible between New Philadelphia and Lake Erie to promote our Snack Shack on the towpath trail through 2018. We expect the trail between the McDonnell trail-head and our property to be dedicated around August 2018. We'll be ready and look forward to serving hot dogs and trail snacks thereafter!
