After our sheep were let out we knew it was for the best to find them a new home. We had tentatively posted them on Craigslist a week before, but began responding to some interested folks last night.

A wonderful family is moving from a single ewe with twin lambs to the majority of our flock. We showed them how to check FAMACHA scores, trim hooves, and a general sheep primer.

All in all, I’m extremely grateful to know that as we recover from losing my grandpa and the shock of the family farm collapsing, that the flock I’ve loved and cared for will have a new beginning with love and care.

We still have a handful of sheep that will remain, and our flock will grow again eventually.

A couple additions to the home flock! We wanted to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary by adding some Chinese Crested Geese! These have been in America since the beginning, notably with George Washington being gifted some and keeping them.

Sheep might not be quite as effective at brush control as goats, but they do an excellent job. They’ll strip the multi-floral rose bushes clean, attack poison ivy, clean fence lines or ditches. They’re all purpose animals.

Get a system, stick to it. Be patient. Some days it’ll flow and others it’ll break. Learn on the days that things fall apart and cherish the ones when it flows smoothly.

Before and After 48 hours for the sheep focused on an overgrown spring. This won’t stop the weeds and brush growth for good. But multiple passes this way will make a big impact. It’s also far easier to come and cut this overgrowth down after the sheep’s work!
