FAMILY•PASSION•PERSEVERANCE
This summer while participating in the Girls Who Grill event we were able to speak about our farm operation at length with the Iowa Beef Council intern.
One of the questions she asked us was, if you could describe your farm in three words what would it be? Me, being the over-thinker that I am, really had to sit with this one and text her back several times with my changing response😅
This is what Shaymus and I finally settled on and we felt as if it was worth sharing:
FAMILY- This isn’t a one man show, we all have our roles and responsibilities here on the farm. Anyone who has ever lived or worked on a farm knows that it is a lifestyle choice and the farm is an extension of our family. And we have goals, multigenerational goals of one day seeing PGFF carried on by our kids and grandkids.
PASSION- Shaymus and I were both lucky enough to be raised on farms and knew very early on that we wanted the same experience for our children. We love what we do♥️ The life lessons our children have learned here are invaluable. Hard work, discipline and humility have been ingrained in them on this farm. And we are passionate about sharing this life with our community. We want to make locally raised foods available to all and we want everyone to get to experience the joy being on the farm can bring.
PERSEVERANCE- This one’s hard…..farming isn’t always rainbows and sunshine. We tend to always keep it positive when talking about PGFF, but that’s not reality. We’ve had great success in building this farm into what it is, but that’s doesn’t mean we haven’t had to fight tooth and nail to do so. When you’re working in a field that is controlled by the markets and Mother Nature the ground beneath your feet can be ripped away from you at any moment…..there have been times where we thought this passion of ours was no longer viable. We really had to sit with ourselves and decide how badly we wanted to fight for this farm. And we decided we couldn’t possibly see ourselves doing anything else, so here we are and here we will remain.
