FAMILY BREAKFAST

I had forgotten just how enjoyable it is to sit down with my entire family and have breakfast. Monday through Friday it's like a small tornado is unleashed in our kitchen. Kelli has to get herself out the door for the office by the butt crack of dawn. The kids have to catch the bus by 6:53, else Poppa has to haul them into town, along with delivering a lecture on showing up on time is 99% of life. PLANTING SEEDS

A goodly part of running a farm is planting seeds. As soon as the ground thaws the big tractors start with getting the ground ready, breaking up clods and tilling the soil. Soon, the soil warms and tiny seeds, hard bits of all the information to create life, are spread and implanted. Given nurture and sun, water and time, the tiny seeds grow to amazing living things, useful in so many ways!

And so it also goes with children. They start like a fertile, ready field, just ready to be filled with information. We sow the seeds of their lives every day. The seeds we give them include big seeds of love, when we spend time with them like a farmer in his field. We cut away the weeds, like sloth and greed and selfishness. We water the good plants, like selflessness and friendliness, good stewardship and "can do" spirit. We watch our farm grow, and tend it day by day. And like a farmer, we get the benefit of our efforts when the crop is harvested. For the farmer, it is plenty of nutritious food. For the family, it is self assured healthy ambitious and smart children who become successful adults and start the whole process over again. What a wonderful life we all have!
