**Stone Gully Farfalla is starting to become real.**

Construction is underway on my little cottage up on the hill between the two ponds, and while there's still plenty of mud, lumber and work ahead, I'm already looking past all of that and seeing what this little farm could become.

I can see **lotus blooming across the ponds**.

Fields and garden beds filled with **lavender, yarrow and calendula**. Blackberries along the edges. A big kitchen garden. My chickens scratching around where they probably shouldn't be.

Plants I can grow, harvest and dry here before they ever make their way into a Stone Gully infusion.

Down by the road sits the old farmhouse, and I have plans for that too. Someday, I'd like to turn it into a little **Stone Gully farm store**—a place to stop in, wander the farm and shop Stone Gully right where some of its ingredients are being grown.

I've named this place **Farfalla**, Italian for *butterfly*.

The butterfly was already part of Stone Gully when I chose the name, but it seems increasingly appropriate for a farm that's very much in the middle of becoming something new.

Right now, some of this exists only in my head.

Some of it is finally under construction.

And over the next few years, I'm going to get to watch the distance between the two grow smaller.

**Beeswax is a lot more chemically interesting than most people realize.**

It contains hundreds of individual compounds—including wax esters also found in our own skin, along with fatty acids, sterols and plant-derived compounds carried into the hive.

That complex chemistry is one of the reasons I use beeswax in my balms.

It’s also why I’m particular about where mine comes from.

Because when you choose an ingredient for what it naturally contains, how it was sourced, handled and processed matters.

**I wanted a muscle balm that actually did something.**

Not one that relied on an intense hot-and-cold sensation to confuse the nerve endings at the surface and make you *feel* like something was happening.

I wanted to go deeper.

A stubborn muscle knot isn't just about the muscle itself. There’s circulation to the area, the tiny vessels feeding the surrounding tissue, and the fascia that wraps through and around the muscle. So I built UNKNOT around all three.

**Ginger** brings warmth and helps increase circulation into tight, overworked muscles. **Rosemary** supports microcirculation through the surrounding tissue. And **gotu kola and plantain** were chosen for their relationship with connective tissue and fascia—the network that surrounds, supports and moves with our muscles.

Then there’s **yarrow and chamomile** to help settle angry, overworked tissue, with black pepper and just enough peppermint to round out the formula without turning it into an overwhelming hot-and-cold experience.

Massage UNKNOT deeply into a tight shoulder, stiff neck, aching back or stubborn knot. The warmth develops gradually as you work it in.

And one of my favorite things about this formula? **Massage the area again later and you can wake that warmth right back up.**

I didn't want UNKNOT to simply create a sensation on the skin.

**What does a medieval monastery garden have in common with a World War I battlefield?**

Calendula.

For roughly **800 years**, this bright orange flower kept turning up wherever people were treating damaged and wounded skin.

Eight centuries is a very long time for a remedy to remain useful.

So what did generations of people know about calendula long before anyone could explain the chemistry?

It’s National Beard Day — and we’ve been working on a different kind of beard oil.

Beard care isn’t only about putting oil on facial hair. There’s the hair itself, the skin underneath it, and the follicles producing it — so we built our new Beard Oil with all three in mind.

Camellia seed oil has been prized in Japanese hair care for centuries. Light and silky, it helps soften coarse hair and add natural-looking shine without a heavy oil coating.

Jojoba is actually a liquid wax similar to our skin’s own sebum, making it particularly useful for conditioning both beard and the skin underneath.

Then we went to the herb garden.

🌿 Plantain is one of our favorite skin herbs. Traditionally used to soothe irritated skin, it helps care for the often-forgotten skin beneath the beard.

🌿 Nettle has a long history in traditional hair and scalp preparations. Its naturally occurring minerals and phytochemicals make it an interesting botanical for supporting the skin and follicle environment.

🌿 Rosemary has traditionally been used to stimulate and invigorate the scalp, and modern research has made it particularly interesting for its potential relationship with circulation around the follicle and healthy hair growth.

And then there are two ingredients that completely change how the beard feels.

Broccoli seed oil is rich in erucic acid, giving it exceptional slip and a smooth finish. Sometimes described as a natural alternative to silicone, it helps smooth rough, wiry hair and improve manageability.

Daikon radish seed oil is remarkably light, adding softness and conditioning while helping give the formula a drier, less greasy feel.

Argan oil brings rich fatty acids that help soften and protect beard hair as it grows longer.

The result is not simply an oil that makes a beard shiny.

It’s botanical care for the beard, the skin beneath it, and the follicles underneath that.

Softness without heaviness.
Slip without silicone.
Conditioning without being oily.

Why a powder cleanser?

Because sometimes the best way to formulate a product is to take something out.

In this case, it's water.

Without water sitting in the bottle, I don't need a traditional preservative system to protect an aqueous formula, and I don't need emulsifiers to hold water and oils together. You add the water when you use it, which means I can keep the formula concentrated and fill the jar with ingredients chosen for what they actually contribute to your skin.

Fine rice powder creates a soft, silky base and provides very gentle physical exfoliation.

Sodium cocoyl isethionate is a mild coconut-derived cleanser that lifts away oil, makeup and the day's accumulation without leaving skin feeling tight or stripped.

Lotus flower powder + lotus extract bring antioxidant-rich plant compounds directly into the formula.

Jojoba beads provide gentle, biodegradable physical exfoliation without the sharp edges of many natural scrubs.

Allantoin + aloe vera help soothe and condition the skin while you cleanse.

And lavender, sweet orange and vanilla absolute give it its soft botanical scent.

Add a little water in your palm and the fine powder transforms into a soft, creamy cleanser. It rinses away beautifully without stripping the skin, leaving your face smooth, soft and dewy-fresh rather than tight and squeaky clean.

Cleanse at night before applying Renewal Balm. Cleansing in the morning, it leaves a fresh, smooth surface ready for foundation—nothing else needs to be layered in between.
