Honey of the Month: September
🔴Cranberry Blossom🔴
Did you know the NJ Pine Barrens ranks 3rd in cranberry production in the country? Cranberry blossoms are not as appealing of a food source for bees as other flowers so, timing of setting out the hives in the bogs is important to obtain adequate pollination of the plants. When the blooms are at about 5% the bees should be brought in and kept until mid July. Harvesting of Cranberries is in mid September. Cranberry Blossom honey is a strong and robust honey with earthy berry hints. This honey has a red cast when held up to light.
As a reminder, cranberry honey is a dollar off for the month. Come give it a try!
