Need a stunning drought tolerant large shade tree that can handle harsh soil and withstand storm and snow with very minimal damage? With beautiful fern-like foliage creating delightful, dappled shade, the Northern Sentinel® Honeylocust is one of our most drought tolerant and adaptable city trees.
Narrowly upright growth habit resists storm and snow damage. It is fast growing, almost pod-less, and adaptable to many harsh soils in challenging climates making it a great fit for street tree plantings where branches must be pruned up for traffic clearance. Height 45’ | Spread 25’. Cold and heat tolerant in USDA Zones 4-9.

More likely, though, you’ll recognize some of our signature cultivar introductions that could have only come from JFS. Those trees will continue to beautify, cool, and bring important health benefits to our neighborhoods for years to come. The Skinny Genes® Oak (Quercus x bimundorum 'JFS-KW2QX' PP 24442) is a popular deciduous tree for urban planting and is known for its narrowly columnar growth habit, mildew resistant rich green foliage that turns lovely yellow in the fall, and storm-resistant branching that ascends very close to the trunk.
