Potato Dig Day was an awesome community success!!! We harvested a literal ton—2,000lbs— of Purple Viking, Nicola and Russet potatoes.

We love the potato digging implement on the tractor (we only threw one bolt 😅 but hey, we needed a problem to solve). After the tractor lifted the potatoes and shook them onto the soil’s surface, it was an easy sort & haul for all ages.

Thanks to all our CSA members and community friends who came out to harvest and taste-test our potatoes at their freshest! YUM!

The remaining 1996lbs of potatoes are bagged up and ready for CSA season. Cheers to a full root cellar! 🥔

Shade cloth got onto the prop house in time for the heat wave! All thanks to our TP-tossing athletes and the quality control kittens.

Shout out to Oregon Community Food Systems Network for granting us this shade cloth from their Disaster Resilience project! As the world gets hotter we gotta farm smarter.

Seeding and Weeding = Full Cellar Summer

Flossing and brushing rows of leeks (do you floss first or brush first, on your own teeth?)
Three of us spent most of Monday checking every winter squash plant for these jewel-like eggs, often found in the V of a leaf’s veins. Anyone know the adults? Hint- when you squish them they reek of sickening candy-apple. 🤢
Always happy to see these helpful predator ladiez, but made us wonder if there is an aphid problem lurking?
Summer rhythm is such a refreshing new pace for us farmers! Our bodies are tired and the heat is intense sometimes, but in the 2 month window when we’re not harvesting for CSA, we’re able to spend more time responding to the farm’s needs (and weeds)! And just think— all of these tiny plant starts will be bountiful bunches of leafy greens, roots and shoots for your CSA boxes in a couple short months! Yum :)
