Thought it would be nice for everyone to get to know us better. This is a brief version of our history!
It all started 59 years ago when Al Ferent was tired of being a deckhand and decided to get his own traps, license, and boat. He purchased the first Sandi (named after his wife Sandra Ferent), a 38’ x 13’ 1956 red old wood Canadian style boat. Lobster fishing is hard work and there aren’t that many people interested in it, luckily for Al he had three of his sons to help him fish. Occasionally Al would even bring his father, Alexander Ferent, to help him out. He and his sons Anthony, Kevin, and Eddie would wake up before sunrise to go down to the dock to fish a day’s work. However, not everything was clear water and bright skies, several times the dock was close to being bought out by the state or other companies. In order to prevent that, Al was able to acquire support from the Archdiocese of Boston. Together they put a stop to the takeover and the dock was named Cardinal Medeiros Dock in honor of the Cardinal himself. In 1992, Al purchased the second Sandi a 40’ by 16’ 1990 green Canadian style boat. This is the same Sandi that is still being used to this day. After working on his father’s boat and lobster fishing for 2002, Eddie followed in his father’s footsteps and purchased a 36’ by 14 ½’ 1988 white Canadian style boat, named Jennifer (after his wife Jennifer Ferent). Unfortunately Al passed away in 2016, but his legacy still lives on with his son, Eddie. Eddie fishes on the Sandi with his son, Cameron Ferent. Eddie sometimes brings out his two young daughters to enjoy the views. Ever since Eddie was little he thought the name “Sandi Shores Fisheries” was clever and appropriate, so he has been using it for a few years now. That brings us to today. We’re trying to expand because lobster isn’t as popular anymore. Through our efforts we hope to build this business up a little more. We appreciate the support from everyone thus far.
