As PoutineFest has grown, one thing has become clear. There are so many people out there doing meaningful work to keep Francophone cultures alive. Schools, nonprofits, artists, community organizers, small groups with big ideas. But not all of them have access to the resources they need. The Light of the North Cultural Grants are about opening that door wider.

We want to support projects across New England that bring this culture into public life. That means language, food traditions, music, storytelling, history, and new ideas that push things forward. This is about inclusivity. Not just who gets to participate, but who gets to lead, create, and share.

‍ ‍ There’s something we’ve believed since day one of PoutineFest. This was never just about fries, curds, and gravy. It’s about culture that means so much to our region. It’s about the stories, traditions, and communities that shaped New England and still live here today. That’s why w...

ALLEZ LES VERTS

That’s what we’re building with PoutineFest across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. And every year around St. Patrick’s Day, I think about that a little more. Not in a competitive way. Just appreciation. This is what it looks like when a culture holds onto something and keeps it visible.

Poutine has found a happy home in Vermont, but the story begins just across the border in Quebec. That’s why the fleur-de-lis sits proudly in the PoutineFest logo, a nod to the place where the curds squeak and the tradition started. We were lucky to have Fromagerie du Presbytère at our first event!

Journalist Pascale Lévesque reported in Le Soleil that Quebec’s dairy industry is working toward giving poutine cheese curds a protected designation of origin . The effort is being led by the Quebec Dairy Industry Council and supported by several major cheesemakers across the province. Imagine fe...
