Great latte art starts before the milk hits the cup ā˜•ļø

There’s a lot happening in that split second before the milk hits the espresso. Texture, temperature, angle, speed. Learning how those pieces work together is what turns trial and error into technique.

If you want to get more confident behind an espresso machine, we’ve got two hands-on classes coming up at OZO:

ā˜• Barista Class
Espresso extraction + milk steaming fundamentals
Aug 30 Ā· Sep 20 Ā· Oct 4 Ā· Oct 18 Ā· Oct 25 Ā· Nov 8 Ā· Nov 22
9am–12pm

šŸŽØ Latte Art Class
Milk steaming, technique + plenty of hands-on pouring practice
Sep 27 Ā· Oct 11 Ā· Nov 15 Ā· Nov 29
9–11am

Whether you’re learning the fundamentals or ready to work on your latte art, come spend a morning behind the bar with us.

Staff Spotlight: Meet Joaquin!

With 22 years in coffee and 7 of them behind the OZO counter, Joaquin brings serious experience (and even more personality) to every shift. Get to know our barista and shift lead a little better below.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your role with OZO.

Well I’ve worked in coffee for about 22 years now and worked at Ozo for 7. I do all the things behind the counter but mostly barista and shift lead. I’ve lived in the Boulder/Denver area for almost 30 years but grew up in upstate NY

2. If you could choose any superpower, what would it be?

I think my super power would be flying. Then I could go anywhere I want at the drop of a dimeĀ

3. What are you passionate about outside of coffee?

Outside of coffee music is my love and happy place. I play drums for a few different local tribute and cover bands. I love bringing joy to people through musicĀ

4. What’s a hidden talent or hobby you have that might surprise people?

My hidden talent is my ability to juggle! Although it’s been a while it still surprises peopleĀ

5. Favorite local business?

My fave local businesses are Dot’s Diner, McGuckins, The Buff and Moe’s Bagels.

New Release: Guatemala Agusto López

This is a washed Guatemalan microlot from the CODECH cooperative in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes of Huehuetenango. This is our second year working with producer Agusto López, and we’re excited to see his coffee back in the lineup! He grows Bourbon and Caturra varieties on his farm, La Esperanza 2, which sits up in the mountains at about 1,700 meters above sea level. This is a well-structured coffee with sweet black cherry up front and sweet and spicy ginger and panela finishing out a perfectly balanced cup.

A favorite from Huehuetenango is back for the season! For nearly 20 years, OZO has partnered with CODECH, a cooperative of smallholder producers in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango region, and this year we’re proud to feature another exceptional lot from longtime producer MarĆa Romalda. Grown at 1,650 meters from this limited 22-bag harvest, the cup shines with vibrant blackberry acidity balanced by sweet notes of nougat and milk chocolate. A beautiful expression of MarĆa’s craftsmanship and the quality of CODECH coffees.
