In 1971, Balsam Lake Farms was started as a family farm with beef cattle and hogs. There have been many changes through the years as economics changed. In 1989 Farmers Market was added

as a way to keep the farm sustainable. In 2009 we added pork, beef, venison, and chickens to the products we have available at Market. As America Moved to Commodity Production, we at BLF stayed the same, old fashioned feeding, without the use of antibiotics or hormones. All of our animals are mainly fed home grown alfalfa and barley, from our farm. You might feel our products are high priced, but if you would go to your local grocery store and compare to American Angus Beef, you will see we are very competitive. It’s only when you compare us to foreign meat, do we seem high priced. We attend Farmers Market in Grand Rapids, Hibbing, and Ely.
