If you've been looking for an affordable space to host a special event, look no further! SOKY Center is now renting the upstairs area of the brick building adjacent to the pavilion for birthday parties, wedding or baby showers, family gatherings, or other celebrations. Seating is available for up to 60 guests, and while food may be brought in, the commercial kitchen is not a part of this rental. Go to sokybg.org for additional information or to place a request.

Starting in September, SOKY Center will be hosting a brand new donation-based program that will meet every Tuesday at 6 p.m.! Power Flow Yoga is an energizing yoga class that combines strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance into one fluid workout. Flow through challenging sequences designed to build muscle, improve mobility, strengthen your core, and increase cardiovascular endurance—all while connecting movement with breath. This class will leave you feeling stronger, more focused, and refreshed. Expect upbeat energy, creative flows, fun music and modifications for all experience levels in a welcoming, supportive environment.

So many great opportunities to learn and connect this week at WCPL! And don't forget we're closed Wednesday!

📕Monday (8/17) - Divas Book Club will meet to discuss the “The Song of Sourwood Mountain” by Ann Gabhart at 5PM at the Smiths Grove Branch.

🚫Wednesday (8/19) - All library locations will be closed for In-Service Training. SOKY Center's evening classes will still take place.

Thursday (8/20)
🪡🧵Because of limited space, **registration is required for the Intermediate Sewing class at 3 p.m. at the HOTEL INC Satellite Library.
🎨🧑‍🎨Teens are invited to the Bob Ross Painting event at 5 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch, where they can watch an episode of his iconic instructional show, follow along, relax, and create some beautiful artwork in a cool, chill atmosphere! **Register online.

🎭Friday (8/21) - Teens in middle and high school ages 13-18 are invited to the Back to School Bash at SOKY Center (636 Center St.)
(teens) for snacks, theatre games, and other improv and theatre activities! All teens welcome no matter their level of experience at this weekly program taking place throughout the school year. **Fill out the interest form via the library's calendar of events.

August is a great month to get involved at YOUR public library, no matter what your age or stage! Free programs are available each week; here are a few highlights:

Tuesday (8/11)
☀️Get creative at Craft Corner! Join other adult crafters to make Rug Coasters at 10:30 a.m. at the Smiths Grove Branch.
☀️Enjoy coffee, conversation, and activities during our new program, a monthly Senior Social Hour at 2 p.m. at the Lisa Rice Library.
☀️Bring your best backyard barbecue recipe (and sample to share, if you'd like) to Cookbook Club at 6 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch

Wednesday (8/12)
☀️The Great Books group will meet at 12 noon at the Lisa Rice Library to discuss the short story “The Midnight Zone” by Lauren Groff.
🚫The 6:30 p.m. Zumba class that typically meets Wednesdays at the SOKY Center will not meet this week.

Thursday (8/13)
☀️Students ages 13 to 17 and parents are invited to the Teen Advisory Board Open House at 4:30 p.m at the Bob Kirby Branch. Teens can sign up to become a TAB member that day and learn about group's activities planned for the school year.

Rebecca and I are very excited about the first repertoire class and session this coming weekend! There have been some changes to the dates for September and October, so have a look at the revised details. If you play violin/fiddle, flute, tin whistle, accordion, tenor banjo, etc., and you have a hankering to learn some Irish and Scottish tunes, come on out! NEW LOCATION announcement: the Language Café program that had been meeting at SOKY Center will now meet twice a month on Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Lisa Rice Library, starting THIS coming weekend (August 9) and on the following dates:
August 23
September 13
September 27
Join us in a casual, comfortable setting and connect over coffee and conversation. Whether you are an English speaker with an interest in learning other languages or speak another language and want to hone your English skills, you'll enjoy this time making community connections! Spanish and English are consistently available, and additional languages will be determined by patron interest and facilitator availability.
