Café au Lait dahlias Experiment: grown in the greenhouse this summer and doing very well, but I am not sure if they are doing significantly better than those growing outside. Next year I should do a proper experiment with the control group of the same variety growing outside too 🤓.

Every year I try to grow something new, this year I tried burplerum as the filler and I am completely in love with it. It is beautiful and it has an excellent vase life. It is also a perennial. The only thing I will change next year is installing a netting over the area where it is growing so it stays up a little better.

If you ever bought these lillies in a store this time of year, don’t throw them away after they finish blooming! Plant them in the ground and they will reward you year after year. They will also keep multiplying. From the initial bulb I saved from someone’s house I now have several gorgeous lilies.

Love seeing ladybugs 🐞 in my garden. They did help take care of aphids that were infesting my greenhouse, now the greenhouse is aphid free (at least from what I can see) and ladybugs have moved on to other parts of the garden. Here one is sitting on Ammi.

I was inspired by the dark lilies and so I complimented them with burgundy stock, carnations and yarrow. I was then left with all the pale flowers of white, cream, lavender and blue, which turned into a lovely airy arrangement.

This year I tried starting beets from seed and as recommended by @charles_dowding planting 3-4 to a bunch. I also spread a fairly thick layer of compost on this bed in the late fall. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The larger one could be gently twisted off and the others left to grow. Thanks to Charles I got inspired to try growing more vegetables this year and Kohlrabi is one of them. So happy with the outcomes.

Iceland poppies in a foraged antique “vase” from the woods behind our house. The trick to long vase life is burning the ends with fire of boiling water for a few seconds.
