Our campus farmstand has been off to a great start! Students have been stoked and we’ve been busier than ever! Come see us every Thursday from 4-6 on 11th (NE corner of Plant Bioscience). We will be there until October 8th (weather permitting), and October 15th will be our final bulk sale at the farm 😊

A colorful and very full CSA this week!
We had rainbow chard, Ailsa Craig and red tropea onions, shish*to peppers, jalapeños, violet delight eggplant, bolero carrots, a mix of green beans, corinto and piccolino cucumbers, slicer and cherry tomatoes, leeks, and garlic!

Congratulations Townes Harvest Practicum class of 2026! These students spent 12 weeks of their summer learning hands on how to grow, market, and eat local produce. They visited 16 local farms, gardens, and businesses, as well as had guest lectures on bees, farm funding, soils, mushrooms, composting, indigenous food sovereignty, seeds, water rights, and local university research. We shared weekly lunches and each student helped grow food from planting seeds all the way through distributing produce at our CSA and preserving the harvest. We can’t wait to see the contributions you all make to our food system!

This year the Townes Practicum class focused in on cover crops, crops planted not for sales but other benefits like soil fertility, and w**d management. They conducted an experiment in which they compared drill and broadcast seeded oats and peas to a control without cover crops! Students found that growing a cover crop led to less w**d biomass and more total biomass. They also compared irrigated to dry land plots and found that weekly irrigation helped with establishment for broadcast cover crops, but didn’t make a large difference for drill seeded covers.

CSA Week 6 looking good! This week we had:
KN-Bravo Radishes
A choice of piccolino, corinto, or unagi cucumbers (the unagi are our new fav!)
Chalupa romaine lettuce
Choice of rainbow chard or kale
Mokum carrots
Garlic (mixed varieties)
A mix of summer squash
Tiara cabbage from Sophie’s research plot
And U-pick herbs!

Week 5 CSA had a lot of new things and the warm season crops are on their way! This week we had:
Easter egg radishes, black magic kale, celery, Flashy Troutback lettuce, Green Magic Broccoli, kolibri kohlrabi, choice of cukes or summer squash, and garlic that we just started harvesting yesterday! We also had bouquets available for sale this week 🌸

Also included was: Adriana lettuce, fennel, a spring greens mix of baby brassica greens, black magic kale, Mokum carrots, Tokyo Bekana pac Choi and cilantro.

Had a great start to our CSA season last night!
The share this week included Arugula, Rover radishes, rhubarb from Gallatin gardeners, 3 varieties of pac Choi from a research project on greens, Bloomsdale spinach that was overwintered as a part of Sophie’s intercropping research, a live basil plant, dill & cilantro, scallions and some canned goods that we canned with Roots Kitchen & Cannery 🥕
