Why GrazeKeeper was developed:
The Montana GLCI spearheaded the development of GrazeKeeper to address the cumbersome nature of keeping and reviewing grazing records. With conventional recordkeeping systems, ranchers and ranch managers must sort through dozens of records or files to draw a clear picture of how, when, and to what degree a particular pasture was grazed in a certain timeframe, or when
and where a specific management group was grazed. GrazeKeeper was developed as a method to plan and record grazing activities in a manner that allows reports to be created and pulled at will. GrazeKeeper is designed as a tool for ranchers to inventory, measure degree of grazing on plants, track livestock movements, and most importantly to report livestock movements by pasture or management group, while providing a visual and actual record of available forage. What GrazeKeeper is intended to solve for ranchers:
GrazeKeeper was designed to solve the problem of maintaining records of grazing activities and the difficulty of consulting numerous records and files to obtain a picture of what happened by pasture or management group. GrazeKeeper is a tool for ranchers and ranch managers to plan, record, and create visual and actual reports to facilitate making informed decisions and to assist in meeting management objectives. It is a tool for putting together the inventory and planned movements of livestock in order to determine if those movements are sustaining, impeding, or stimulating the grazing resource on the ranch. Simplifies the process of creating grazing reports, either by pasture or management group. Facilitates making better, informed decisions regarding stocking rates, carrying capacity, and grazing movements.
