October is National Co-op Month, and we’ve got 47 years to look back on.

“The evolution of an idea.” That’s what the sign said on our original Crossroads building, and it still fits.

It started with a group of neighbors who wanted a say in their own food supply. They built a cooperative that became a grocery store, a coffee shop, a lunch spot, and a place to work and gather.

Here’s a walk through everything this Co-op has been. Different logos. Different buildings. Different decades.

We’ve been stirring the pot since the 70s. Not as a slogan, but as a way of doing things.

We’ve shown up differently over the years, but at our core, we are who we’ve always been.

Vendor Spotlight: Hyalite & Co. 🕯️
 
In 2019, Alé was staying in a domestic violence shelter in Bozeman when someone donated a box of scent oils. She just wanted to learn to make candles to thank the neighbors and churches who’d shown up for her.
 
Those candles became Hyalite & Co. Six years later, she’s got 45+ scent blends, a perfume line, and products in over 70 shops across Montana and beyond, all made with clean, organic, plant-based ingredients.
 
Originally from Colombia, Alé now calls Montana home, and every product is her way of loving the place that took her in.

Every apple adds up! 🍎

In August, 20 cents from every apple sold went straight to Headwaters Community Housing Trust, adding up to $2,646.20 to support their mission of creating and protecting homes that are permanently affordable for middle-income households in the Gallatin Valley.

Thank you to everyone who grabbed an apple last month, your grocery run helped fund real, lasting change in our community.

Vendor Spotlight: Steep Mountain Tea 🍵

Back in 2020, when Townsend’s Tea Company closed its retail locations, the future of the Bozeman teahouse was up in the air.

Scott and Melissa Herron, who had been running the shop, reached out to Nick Gabriel and Serena Rundberg with an idea to carry it forward.

That conversation turned into Steep Mountain Tea.

A few years later, Serena moved closer to family, and Nick kept things going alongside Scott, who brings deep knowledge of tea, and Erik Dale, the designer behind the look you see on the shelf.

Since then, they’ve been growing it in a steady, thoughtful way. Expanding blends, sourcing really good tea, and working toward more sustainable packaging.

It all comes back to something simple. Creating tea that helps people slow down and feel a little more connected to where they are.
