A Vermont Dairy Farm Creates The Future Of Food
Vermont Mealworm Farm’s story begins at a small dairy farm in Braintree, Vermont. For decades, our farm has served the Randolph community with the highest quality dairy products. But times change. Local dairy farms become increasingly outmatched by larger farms who can mass produce milk and other products for cheaper. That’s where necessity became the mother of invention!
Between late 2017 and early 2018, we began to build out the operations needed to become a mealworm farm. Why mealworms? Mealworms and their main byproduct, frass, are essential for creating a sustainable world. Frass in particular has many great benefits for cannabis and vegetable farmers alike: promoting plant health and growth without having any unwanted impact on soil quality. Plus, frass is virtually a waste-free process. The mealworms’ excreta can all be used to create frass.
And as for the mealworms themselves, well, there is so much you can do with them. They’re such an amazing source of nutrition for your pets, wild birds, and yes, humans! Mealworms can be used as a fishing bait. And it’s been shown in recent research that mealworms can digest styrofoam, which rids the world of a top landfill filler!
Check out Vermont Mealworm Farm now to see how our mealworms and frass are changing the future of food and the future of our planet!
