Look at these beautiful organza bags...I mean dahlias, dahlia flowers. 😆

The dahlia rows aren't quite Instagram worthy. But are the bags really necessary?
Unfortunately, yes. If I were to leave them exposed in the field I would likely have very little usable flowers. Insect pressure is very strong, notably the corn rootworm beetle as seen on the sunflower. This year the beetle has been wrecking havoc on my flowers as the field corn was ahead of schedule and the beetle was looking for food.

If you ever wonder why dahlias are considered a premium crop, this is just one of the many reasons. Covering and uncovering them daily adds quite a bit extra time. They sure are beautiful tho!

Did you know dahlias can vary in color?

These are both the variety, Diva, grown from tubers I stored last season.

But look at the difference in color!

The one on the left is a vibrant purple magenta, while the one on the right is a much deeper, richer wine color.
Same variety. Two different plants. Two completely different looks. Maybe garden location? Amount of sunlight? Soil? Hard to say.

Dahlia color can be influenced by things like temperature, sunlight, and growing conditions, so even when you know exactly what you planted, they can still surprise you.

School is already starting!

Both these wraps are going out to subscription members tomorrow. I made the pink wrap-because it's pink 🩷 ..but then I thought maybe it's time for fall colors.

I have something special for you this weekend!

Love dahlias? Love lisianthus?
How about BOTH?! 😍

Dahlia season is just getting started, while my lisianthus season is winding down... so I’m putting them together in these gorgeous wraps!

Each wrap has a dahlia or two, lots of beautiful lisianthus, and plenty of other seasonal blooms from the farm.

And the colors?! You’ll definitely want to grab your favorite!

The hottest evening of the year, only 110 heat index!

And that was the evening for a photo session in the flower field.

So thankful for Tami Cards Photography for braving the heat with me and capturing these beautiful photos. She has such a talent for catching the little moments and making everything look effortless.

Definitely worth sweating through my clothes for. 😂
